If they are down to the cords then dump them for sure. However I've been doing some research on racing websites regarding the high performance soft compound tires like the ones we run on our cars and this is what I found:
  • The tire rotation directions indicated on the sidewall of the tire are important for water drainage in rain or wet conditions.
  • However, the direction of rotation can be changed to suit the driver’s needs once the tire has been worn down.
  • Thus, you may use the tire in any direction of rotation when not in rain or wet conditions.
If you think the tires are unsafe, get rid of them. But I would consider getting an old set of track wheels and mounting these up reversed so the badly worn area is on the inside of the front tire and on the outside of the rear tire. I would do easy laps and slowly work up to speed.

If the tire isn't worn through to the cord or far past the wear bar then they should be safe from blowing out. If you notice they dont grab well and feel slick or greasy in the corners then stop. I'm thinking they may not be 100% as sticky as when they were new but still useable for practice laps, etc. Remember this multi compound design on tires is relatively new and before that they were one compound across the tread. Since the mfg says the center and inner compound is designed for high speed grip I would think there is still some useable life that can be safely used. Thats what I'm going to try when this set gets down to the same condition that you described with yours.

I'm not trying to rip on you but this is an obvious alignment problem and your tires are toast. Try out the Nitto. My friend said that they work very well.

I'm not sure it's an alignment issue. He said he did 5 track days on these tires. When I do track days I can do 4/5 25 minute sessions in a day. X's 5 days thats a LOT of track time especially if he is really driving the corners hard and pushing the fronts. Since he was doing predominantly left turns and his worst wear is on the outside of the front right tire, that makes sense.

Make sure your air pressure is right for the track. I think most recommend 33 front and 37 rear cold. Consider getting a set of track wheels and tires to chew up and keep your good wheels & tires for the street so they last longer.

Well, I guess I should have read better. You are right...those track days melt your tires but mine never did that. The wear was more even.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful input.

Yea, I don't think it's much an alignment as it is just burning these things up on the track.

I have done about 5 track days. Each track days is usually around 6 to 8 sessions each of them 25 minutes long. I live in Texas so 2 of those track days were in the summer with 100+ degree temperatures. Plus, I was moved to the advanced group and am getting much faster. I am one of the few in my group that still run with street tires.

I want to get a new set of wheels/tires so my daily (street) tires will last longer but I just don't wanna bite the bullet on a new set of wheels yet.

I just hate replacing a whole set when it's mainly the front right tire with the blisters. The other 3 tires probably could get 1 or 2 more track days out of them, but I can tell they are getting close to the same issue as this one.

I think I'll go ahead and just replace all 4, get an alignment and save for a new set of wheels.

You can probably find a used set of wheels for the track for $300-$400, who cares if they have road rash as long as they're safe.

If you were closer I would get your old tires from you and reverse mount them on my track wheels. I'm just sayin...........

Anyone know where to get an old set of used wheels for the track? I don't care if they are stock, 19's, 18's or whatever. I just need an extra set for the track for under $500 if possible.
