my position now is - if anybody does not feel comfortable to be solely responsible for any repair/rebuild costs on drivetrain - it is BETTER to keep it pure stock.
Nevertheless, my car has softronic since 2009, 200 cell cats - i had it serviced at dealer many times, no issues so far. Including replacing dead coil on 2nd cylinder while car was on track rims with shaved RA1 tires and all dirty from track marbels.

I just keep calming myself that if my engine would have any weak spot it would already explode but so far it holds fine and hopefully will last several more seasons at least. But I do have $15K put aside already for a new one as it is what it is.

Yet if I'm not mistaken some Porsche dealers sell the flash software.

I agree with this and I also tend to follow Pauls advice on mods since his car is similar to mine and he knows 100X more than me on this stuff.

I kept my car stock for the first two years while tracking it. Once out of warranty I started to mod it. This year I did a little on the suspension and loved the results. I also hired a coach this year.

With the season over I will now add a few more mods....

This weekend I will attempt the Softronic tune, more out of curiosity and since they just ran a special. I don't expect tremendous gains alone. Then some fabspeed cats over the winter and seats and harnesses and I'm set for next season.

tune with no 200 cell cats wil not produce significant gains. only thing tune does - it allows to use all available air by sacrificing emissions complience restrictions factory has in a stock tune. if whole exhaust is stock - power will remain cloe to stock.
but it should fix that slight power drop in upper rpm range. you will like it better on a track i think.

if you decide to change cats - you can also put on x51 997 headers. just be very, very careful with those bolts that attach headers to a block. you do not want to brake them.
when i tried to undo bolts between my cats and headers i broke off nuts with bolt`s bodies on 4 bolts out of 6 - even after soaking them for 24 hours.

Will certainly do the 200 cats...probable pass on the headers for now and pass an an upgraded exhaust.

If the tune gets rid of that power dip it will be well worth the coin.

Best

Would it make sense to do the cats first and then the tune? Can they adjust the tune for the high flow cats?

just disconnect battery for 5+ min and ECU will reset. if you have durametric you also can perform 'reset' of all CEL codes to force ECU into re-learning mode. but battery disconnect does it as well.

also, disconnect battery when you`ll start putting on 200 cell cats as if you will not reset ECU it will feel odd at first run like you lost power as it is more difficult for ECU to adjust properly to reduced backpressure in exhaust than to increased backpressure.

Is there an independant dyno graph showing that?

I got my tuned ECU back today. I took the car out already and the change is INCREDIBLE. I really did not think that the tune was going to be that noticeable since the Fabspeed muffler and air intake don't go in until next week. However, acceleration, throttle response, and overall power were significantly improved. I have a base C2 and I have read all the threads about nominal gains. Granted, I am not a pro driver, or even a good novice tracker, but the power increase is OBVIOUS. I don't need a dyno for that. Best $$$ I have spent on this car!

I got a lot of feedback from all of you on this forum, so thank you. In the end, there was so much info on GIAC, EVOMSit, ETG, and Softronic, that I just got "analysis paralysis!" This guy, Chris Sterling, who owns an indy tire/wheel shop in Lake Forest, Ca, has done light mods to my car. He arranged the tune, took out the ECU and reinstalled it after the tune. I am not a DIY kinda guy! I am not even sure which tune we went with. He was right though, it works! His shop will install the muffler and intake next week. If you live in SoCal, he's worth looking up to work on your P-Car. Honest and reasonable are not common words to use around many P-shops. I am proud to say I found one! PM me if you need his contact info.
