OEM XM on a 997.1
After contemplating this mod for sometime, I finally decided to purchase and install an OEM XM unit. The install took quite awhile (5 hours), mainly becuase I wanted everything perfect. Nothing too difficult though.
The total cost for this project was $750, but I think it can be done cheaper (about $670).
My car does not have a CD changer -- it does have Nav and Bose.
Pics are on the way.

Yes, it was a must-have for me as well, and I ended up going the NavTV route since I also got the NavTV BT and iPod modules. Our screens look identical.
I can't believe these did not come standard on a 997.1... what a joke.

Never thought much about XM radio until I got one on my new 997.2 recently. Now I can't believe how I went this long without satellite radio. Thought I'd always have my ipod source on, but 99% I'm listening to an XM channel - usually 80s music channel

Specifics for the install? What parts purchased where? Seems I've only seen threads on how crazy expensive this is. Wasn't there something about Cayenne parts for >$2K? I'm sure I am missing something! I have Sirius in my DD and I love it. Of course that cost me about $200 installed.
I do not have NAV or Bose.
Thanks!

I used a couple threads I found Renntech and one on 6speed, however, the process was a little different. I never found install directions for a car with Nav, Bose and no CD Changer. The part you need is a Cayenne part: 955 645 281 02 ($670). If you have Nav/CD Changer you will also need 955 044 900 65 ($80) -- this provides the fiber optic loop and power (although, there is also a power extension that comes with 955 645 281 02). If you do not have Nav or a CD changer then you will only need 955 645 281 02. 955 645 281 02 comes with a lot of Cayenne specific pieces that you will not need. It also comes with an antenna that replaces the Navigation antenna found under the cowl.
The install was basically this:
1. Remove interior frunk plastic pieces
2. Remove the black L-shaped peice of plastic on the evaporator to expose the firewall
3. Remove the cowl -- plastic piece at the base of the windshield
4. Install antenna under the cowl
5. Run the antenna cables through the firewall
6. Buy industrial strength velcro
7. Find the cars CD/Nav power cable -- should be off to the left near the evaporator, under the carpet
8. Hook up the power extension cable to the cars power cable
9. Hook up the fiber optic cord to the cars fiber terminal (this will vary depending on your options. With no Nav or CD changer then it should be in back of the metal cylindrical device that is aft of the brake fluid resevoir
10. Hook in the power, fiber and antenna cables to the XM device
11. Velcro in the XM device
There are a lot of other more detailed steps (e.g. the stuff you have to disconnect to remove the cowl) to this, but this is basically it. I read somewhere that you need to remove the carpet in the frunk -- definitely not necessary. You can peel it back slightly to run the cables.

Would you mind posting the threads you used for the install? Is there a "sat" button on the dash that you need to install, or do you just access the satellite radio via the audio button?
Does the NavTV module have both XM and bluetooth for phone connectivity? The main reason I haven't gone with a dension solution is because I don't care to fiddle around with the ipod, but would much rather just have a satellite radio in place.

To access xm stations, you just toggle the am/fm button.

Apparently, you can buy either sirius or xm. I bought xm since (and I might be wrong on this) I heard Porsche stopped making the sirius tuners for some reason. The sirius unit still exists in their system though.
The sirius part # is: 955 645 280 02
The xm part # is: 955 645 281 02

NavTV has separate modules for BT, Sat, and iPod. They are not cheap and all 3 installed ran me around $2,100 on sale through a local dealer installed. They work, small issues at times, but they get the job done. I will have to write my review on it. You get to Sat by pressing the radio button until it comes up after the AM band.
This has been killing me, as I didn't know it was possible to do on the 997.1.
