09 997 C4s Cab
I've been searching for my first 911 since early summer. Since then, the price on used cars has risen significantly (~7-10k in some cases). After a long summer of searching, I decided to scale back my searching in September and wait until the winter, when hopefully things would cool down a bit (assuming winter + 991 would bring things back down to a reasonable price point). I've been tracking my preferred car (09 C4s Cab) for the past few weeks on eBay (10-20k mile range). They are all bidding up to around 66-68k, with the reserve not being met. On the other hand, the 'buy now' prices are in the high 80s / low 90s. Quite a large spread. I always go on the basis that a car is worth what the market is willing to pay for it. Macroeconomics. It seems these 'buy now' prices are way in left field and are not achievable for the seller (given current market conditions, the economy, economic uncertainty, etc.) I'm thinking the fair price should be somewhere in the low 70s. So here lies the question. Should I move on and come to the reality that I won't get my dream car for this price range (start looking at C2s cabs or C4s coupes) or stick it out over the winter and hope the market comes down in line with my expectations / price point for the C4s Cab?

I don't think you can buy a well-optioned C4S cab in the low 70s in that mileage range. I picked my C4S coupe up with 15k on the clock in late August for mid-80s with CPO.

If price is the concern, why not an 05-08 C4S cab? More affordable, and IMO, for your first 911, you will find it to be a total thrill and reliable too. If your first impulse is to buy a cab, I think it would be silly to settle for a coupe. My advice -- start by putting out some low bids on the 09's, searching nationally. Being winter now and the 991s coming to showrooms in Feb, you may well find a dealer that's looking to unload some inventory.

There are many reasons why I'm set on an 09 over an 06-08. Better engine (more power, more efficient), bluetooth, ipod interface, nicer nav interface, led tail lights, etc. If I had to upgrade all of these things, I'd be back up to 09 pricing and still have a 997.1
This is a rationale thought in my mind, but then again, maybe my lust for a 997.2 is irrational???

IMO if you want the 997.2 get it for the DFI engine or PDK, not the looks.
