It's a very good deal. Go for it.

Standard gen 2 carrera s wheels can be had for pretty cheap, I think. Look great, imo, and maintain a stock appearance to all except those who look very closely. (No red calipers.)

Thanks for all the advice....i really am on the fence with this one and just want to make a good decision. If this is a once in a lifetime price, i'll likely pull the trigger, so its actually not so much about will i love the car, but i'm in no rush and at the same time don't want to kick myself in 6 months when i'm spending 6k more on the same car...please keep the thoughts comin!!

It's always a roll of the dice on whether or not the deal at hand is the 'best' deal.
The 09 Carrera deal is a reasonable price with a good warranty.
You could most likely sell your 18" wheels and buy a set of used 19s for no more than an additional $800 out of pocket.
I have an 09 S and 95% of the time I'd probably be just as happy with a non S.
Once you decide on and purchase a Porsche do yourself a favor and quit looking.

Also paid around $2600 for 19" lobster claws (tires and sensors) complete though that set had about 10k miles on them
Keep in mind you can than sell the 18's and recoup some of the $$

To give you an idea, I just paid $3500 for 09 19" Carrera S wheels complete with Tire pressure sensors and tires .... they were pretty much brand new with only 500 miles ...

Indeed.
When I was buying I needed to get an S. I know myself and it would eat me up if I didn't have it. I never looked at non-S models. Here is the thing today, if you get the 997.1 S (which is a great car) you will still spend time and money trying to make it look like a 997.2.
If you get a 997.2 non-S, then you will spend time and money trying to make it perform like an S.
Therefore, the only logical conclusion (if the above statments stand true) you should really be looking for a 997.2S. With a 991 on the horizon and in a fairly short amount of time there will be great deals to be had on all 997.2 models. Given the time that you are shopping in, I would wait and nail the 997.2 that meets all your requirements.

Can someone explain exactly how the pasm on a base 997.2 will work. Will it make the ride alot better than without it and since i intend on putting 19" wheels on it will it still have alot better ride than a stock car without it? Also, how will the power of this car feel compared to an 08 cayman s as well as the ride. My old cayman s did not have pasm or sport chrono and had 18" wheels on it. Just trying to compare power and ride comfort. thanks

The PASM on the 09 and up models was improved. To me in normal mode the car feels a bit soft. In sport mode it stiffens the suspension and you will notice the difference over bumps/expansion joints. You will also notice an improvement in body roll in corners. Personally, I prefer the sport mode. The 09 rides better on 19" wheels than the 997.1s.
I went from an 09 Cayman S PDK on 19s to an 09 Carrera S 6 speed on 19s, both with PASM and Sport Chrono. I think you'll like the 09 Carrera with 19s and PASM.
To me the 09 Carrera feesl better on a power basis than an 08 Cayman S. Does the 09 Carrera that you are looking at have Sport Chrono? If not it can be added minus the pod on the dash. In sport mode you get a remapped throttle response and damper settings. Some do not like the Sport throttle maps while driving in town. If that is the case for you simply don't put it in sport while in traffic.
