Just picked it up!

Great comments and logical as well. Can't imagine it takes 2,000 miles to seat the piston rings and if you only drive below a certain, non-redline rpm for that whole time -- you're not getting everything set up for the full spectrum of driving activity. Besides all this logic, it is hard as heck not to punch it even when trying to be good.
I really appreciate all the comments, especially since I'm sure this has been hashed out many times before. Now time for a Sunday drive, but with a bit more vigor than I have been driving.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Your new car looks awesome! I've always felt that the roof-line accent strip on the targas adds a nice character to the cars, and the exterior and interior colors on your car look great.
By the way, just my uneducated opinion, but the quoted break-in procedure from 1BlinkGone seems to make sense, because you would want to wear the engine components in at different rpms and temperatures. This would probably create more even wear (e.g. break-in).
Any way, this is a new car, and I don't think it would hurt to follow some kind of break-in procedure; you'll just feel better about it, even if it may not have any practical value.
Enjoy!

I'm going by the book -- BUT -- every now and then I just can't seem to keep the tach below 4,200. But I'm doing my best. I've got 400 miles on it during the first week. Seem to find many excuses to take it for a drive. Even parked it in a supermarket parking lot once -- I'll get over this fear, though not entirely. Thanks for all the great comments.

Congrats !
never rev the car to redline unless the car in warmed up.
for 1st 1k miles, drive at various rpm. <-- that means don't drive on hwy at 3800 rpm for 30 minutes. Try to vary the speed and the rpm.
The purpose is to break in the cylinders and ports completely from top to bottom and to make sure the piston ring is seated correctly..
break-in is not about driving gently to see if someting breaks in ur engine. '-)

Beautiful car. I had a 07 T4S that I sometimes wish I had kept. I'm curious about your steering wheel, as it has a black air bag with a sand beige interior. Is that normal?

This is not a custom wheel. I believe this is the standard config when you order leather plus the PDK/Sport Chrono (or perhaps just the PDK). The wheel has the incorporated dual bidirectional upshift/downshift "buttons" not sure what to call them (not paddles, too big to be called buttons). I'm really liking the configuration of the wheel and I'm loving the PDK. Having trouble remembering to step on the clutch when I drive my Audi.
