Dealer service amazes me sometimes

Long story short, my 09 C2 S went in for service last week. Simple oil change and HPFP fix. Drove it home, parked it for a week. Have a day off today, start it up, pull it out to get warmed up, and. WTF??. Big trail under the car of what appears to be coolant? After 5 min warmup, another puddle forming under car. Coming out of what ever pump is next to the big accessory pulley at the bottom of the engine. Water pump ? Not only is it leaking, the silve aluminum tube going into it has wrench marks all over it. Think vise grip marks. I am pretty pissed off, but I am a calm dude. I send pics to my service advisor and wait for a phone call. Didn't get one, even though he said he'd call me in 5 min. So I call him, he gets a tech their, yeppers, coolant leak. He tells me not to drive it. And tells me to call 1800porsche number. First of all, I hope I didn't hurt the car last week driving home, second, why didn't they see the leak, third, who the hell put marks all over that aluminum tube? Fourth, did they need to remove something to get at HPFP? And lastly, I thought to myself, how about you call 1800porsche jerk? Is it because if the dealer does it looks bad on them? I hope they won't mind if I am honest with the survey I'll be getting? Poor *** customer service. The guy should've told me they are sorry about the inconvenience, they'll get someone out here right away, etc, etc. Well take care of it sir, no worries. Does anyone know if that is the water pump? Why was it messed with when an oil change and HPFP is what was needed? Anyone here believe coincidence? Frustrated in Denver!!!!

Which dealership? I haven't had to take mine to a dealer yet, but this might affect my next service plans!

Same dealer I bought it from in May. Biggest one in town, you know the one, off Broadway. I actually live in Arvada, but when my wife's Audis needed service at Prestige, it was average at best, so I thought lets see what else is in town. I figured I'd stay where I bought it too it, as they may want my 991 purchase in a couple of years. It just got picked up on a flatbed, and the guy didn't,t have ramps for a low sports car! Luckily I made some that worked.

Interesting... FYI, I've heard good things about Prestige. They support the local PCA chapter. I think I'll try them when/if I need a dealer for service beyond oil changes.

I test drove a few cars at the dealership you're referring to - they were fine to deal with on that level, but their prices were crazy so I ended up finding my car in Texas and driving it back.

I consider myself luck to have a knowledgeable Indy mechanic that I fully trust. I never (unless it's absolutely necessary, although I can't see it) take it to the dealer. It was stories like the OP that completely turned me off their service. I simply can't trust them.

Just got the news from the dealer. Leak was coming from thermostat gasket, which was replaced as part of the HPFP action. They blame a faulty part, wont get the car back until next week. They didn't explain the wrench marks on the aluminum tube. I hope they replace that too. Well see.

There are a number of first-class independent shops along the Front Range. I would check with your PCA buddies before taking your car to either Denver dealership unless it's for warranty work. Prestige's service manager strikes me as being knowledgeable, honest and fair but some of the technicians struggle making an accurate diagnosis of a reported problem and can be quite hamfisted with the tools if the repair is anything beyond simple straightforward. OTOH, based upon the OP's report, perhaps all of those guys are now working for the other dealer........... Best,

Hmmm.... I too have an 09 C2 S which I bought used. The CARFAX showed an outstanding recall re the HPFP. I did not buy the car at a Porsche dealer so took it to the local dealer here in N. VA shortly after purchase to have the car checked out and asked them to take care of the recall. They did. So I suspect your dealer was addressing the recall... but sounds like they did a bad job. It does amaze me how little dealers care for those getting their cars serviced at the dealership. Very short-sighted in my opinion. For all they know, i could be in the market for a new car but sure won't buy it from a dealer that has a bad service department. I have owned Mercedes for the last 20 years... I have seen their service departments go from a place where I was treated like a king to a place where they act like they are doing me a favor to do the service at inflated prices. Luckily I have found an indi for my Benz. So far, I am impressed wtih the Prosche dealer in our area.

I went to the local Porsche stealer today to ask a question. After the very helpful salesperson directed me to parts and service I encountered two employees parts/service who hadn't a clue about a inop driving light. Holy sugarhoneyicedtea! They only have Porsche people on weekdays. I'll go to the indy on Monday.

I need to find a good one. Can anyone recommend one in the Broomfield/Boulder area?
Sorry for the thread jack. I bought mine new from Porsche of Boulder but they recently went out of business. Was going to go to Prestige...but I think an independent shop would be better.

After warranty expires, i would not go to a dealer. Every dealer service varies. Those that do a good job usually are active with pca. Go some where else next time is your best bet.

I must give credit where it is due. I returned to the above yesterday and they were great. Knew exactly what they were talking about and straightened me out including an inexpensive part. They would not accept any payment for their time or part. Rep points for them.
