Downshifting with PDK??

At the outset, let me say that I am not an "under the hood" kind of guy. I enjoy driving my cars but usually pay someone to maintain and/or repair them. I know a fair bit about engines, transmissions, etc., but with today's technology you need a lot of specialized tools and a good computer to diagnose and fix things.

So, all that said, I bought my 2009 CS used so did not have the benefit of an orientation drive with a salesman. Ergo, I am learning as I go along. I find that when I put the PDK in the manual mode and downshift with the paddles, the transmission goes "clunk" as it downshifts and to say it is not very smooth is an understatement. Is there something I should know about down-shifting ... or have I got a bigger problem yet to be diagnosed?

Thanks.

Sounds like my situation with my manual before I learned to heel toe and rev match.

I don't drive a PDk but I would have thought it was not as critical.

My 2012 GTS with PDK does not clunk. In normal Drive, any downshifts either by the auto system or by using paddles are seamless. If I'm not looking the indicator, I wouldn't know the shift occurred. Take it to a dealer, or at least drive another car to compare. There may be software updates that you are missing.

I agree with Fred. A dealer visit is in order.

Good luck.

My PDK does not clunk! It is a little squirrlly on first starting out from a cold start then all is fine.
I'm not sure if that is normal I'm going to stop in to the dealer today and see what they say. 2012 997 S cab

I test drove an 11 C2S with PDK and it clunked pretty good on downshifts when driven agressively. The salesguy said it was normal.

That said, I'd still take the car in for an inspection at the dealer.

to some extent you may say you feel a destinct clunk in a pdk because it is in fact a manual transmission as opposed to a normal automatic. But I would tell you to go to the dealer and have a mechanic or service mgr ride with you and show him your complaint, then get his advice

In my 2011 GTS I can hear a definite noise on shifts. I would not describe it as a clunk though. So +1 on get someone to ride with you to hear and feel what you are concerned about.
Let us know the outcome.

From what you say about a clunk and not being smooth is an understatement, i surmise you have a problem. It sounds like a dramatic clunk - which is nt normal. PDK is an automated manual, so in manual mode, you will feel something. Its not a Lexus. If you drive in SC set to normal and automatic mode, it should be like butta.

Thanks. I have an appointment for next week. the Porsche is not my daily driver - normally drive a E350 and it just don't get much smoother than that so maybe I am making more of this than it is but I certainly appreciate the advice to have it checked out.

Cheers.
