Porsche Sport Driving School
Wife surprised me with the PSDS Performance Two Day Course at the Barber Motorsports Park for Christmas. Guess I was good this year. Now to figure out when to go. Any advice as to what time of the year is the best time to go? I haven't spent much time on that side of the country. Any other tips for the trip? Really looking forward to going.

That is awesome. I went in the beginning of May this year....I posted the video soon after. It is one of the best tracks to drive on. You don't want to go in the summer because it will be very hot and humid, however, the spring has a risk for rain. For us it rained the first day and limited speeds but it was good to learn on. Perhaps fall may be the best time but its best to get someone who has done it then.

I went in early December and the class size was about half what it normally is. So we go allot of practice in the drill sections. Temps were in the high 40's and low 50's.
I would avoid the late spring, summer, early fall period. My choice would be oct-nov or march-April.
Bring the wifey if possible. Mine came and spend the first day at the track as a guest running in the instructors cars. She spend the second day at the hotel getting pampered.
Not sure if You have done any DE's already. If not I suggest you try to get to one before the course. A PCA event if at all possible. I think someone will get a little more out of it with a little track experience beforehand.
You have a great wife...enjoy

I agree with Buckwheat986 on the time to go and the wife

I'm planning to attend the two-day course as soon as it gets a little warmer. The plan is for my wife to take the course with me, not just hang out while I have the real fun. She drives our Cayman R a lot, so I told her taking the course is mandatory.

Depends on whether you want to do the course in a 997 or 991. I called them a couple month ago and they said they're switching over to 991's "sometime in Spring."
Of course the skills you are learning aren't specific to either model but for me, the course is also an invaluable chance to track the new 911, which I hope to switchover to at some point.
Either way, enjoy and let us know how it goes!

I was just there early this month... the weather was lovely. They said it gets pretty humid in the summer. If you are flying into Birmingham the night before and you plan on staying at the Renaissance, make sure your flight arrives before 9PM, or you may miss the shuttle to the resort. I had to get a cab because they said the last shuttle was at 9:30.

Here is a previous post with my video at PSDS in May. Its great fun.

One of the great things is they make a video of one of your last runs to take home with you. This video is just one of the laps of 8 if I recall.

I am going Jan14-15. X-mas present I bought from Craig's list.
A guy won it at he Local Dealership during the event and not really a driver or a Porsche fan and needed X-mas money.
Weather wise I think anytime should be OK except the middle of summer if you don't like hot and humid.
Very seldom do we get any measurable snow.

I went in December, may not be normal, but the temps were in the 30s. You stand outside a fair amount. I had 4 layers in and I was COLD. I prefer cold to heat, but it was a bit much. I wasn't really prepared for it and figured it would be warmer.
