Rear cab window shattered_hard top in place_anyone else?
Back rear side window on the cab broke for no apparent reason on the way home last night.
I was driving (wife's car)........5mph pulling up to stop light......hear pop over left shoulder......turn to see the window shattered, then starting to fall apart into car.
No explanation.
Hardtop is on correctly.
Actually it was latched down a tad looser than I normally would use.......as over the weekend I backed off on 2 rear pins as I was playing with variables to lessen normal hard top 'creak’ noises.
I’ve put these tops on/off many times through the years (3rd cab)......there was nothing unusual about this season.....nothing I could notice.
Anyone heard of this before?
TIA.

A couple of thoughts for the possibilities list:
1.) what was the temp? Is it possible that there was an issue with the defroster and the heat on a cold window caused it?
2.) A loose top could have come off the rests at the pins and been sitting off center/twisted and caused stress on the glass and it finally gave when you stopped.

In 1989 we had a BMW rear window shatter at night while it was parked in the garage. At first the dealer thought something hit the window & after many phone calls BMW NA finally covered it under warranty. Within the next 2-3 years the dealer told us they saw many more & it was caused by the rear defroster coming on by itself & heating up too much.

Fellas.......I appreciate the comments.
My fault however that I was not more clear that it was the back left window.
I inserted that one word in my original post.
Whatever...........it appears shattered glass isn't something others have seen....on cabs......and that's what I was after.
BTW, it's around a $500. situation......Porsche warranty of course not covering glass......and my deductable is $500.

We had a rash of shattered windows in our neighborhood a couple of years ago and it turned out to be local kids with a pellet gun. Check the interior to see if there is a pellet somewhere. It won't erase the glass deductible, but it might be something to check.
