Piratesoul is infamous around these parts
I have noticed that wholesale prices are coming down dramatically in the last 3 weeks. Especially on 997.2's. While this has not immediately translated to lower retail prices because of existing stock by spring you should see a $3k to $6k drop across the board.

Case in point I have a 2010 C2S coupe PDK highly optioned inbound that I will sell for $78k.

That sounds like a great deal. Just imagine what the dealer must have gotten it for!

That's $40,000 in money saved for the same warranty and only 5700 miles. Would I now pay $124,750 for a new 991 with the same options?

My stepdad has a 996 that he is waiting on trading in for a 997 cause he doent want to get the 991 and take depreication. Im telling him to get turbo cab but he is looking at 997 Carrera 4s Cabriolet.

He currently has a 996 C4 Cab with 110k miles in flawless condition. Always serviced meticulously at Pepe Porsche

That is one great deal though. Hard to find in my mind. I compared a bunch of low mileage CPO '09s and a good but not great deal is 25% off sticker. My '09 2S only had 1,000 miles on it so I really didn't have to worry about its past (and it was 25% off). Basically a new car and I would put 5K miles in that same category. The fact it still smells new and has not a single scratch anywhere has huge value to me. It felt no different than driving a new car off the lot.

Used market is dead right now and 997.2 models are hard to find. I agree that spring comes around there will be some available but I don't see a huge price drop coming.

Pretty sure your car would be listed at 90K+ at most dealers these days. Anyway, congrats on the acquisition! I personally think the 997.2 is one of the most beautiful 911 ever and its production cycle was rather short. A potential keeper in my mind.

i am not sure how you can compare, used 997.2 and new 991 are about of $30K-$40K apart at least.

My point exactly. The new car and the used car are in different target markets. Not quite the same buyer.

I dont think the OP was trying to compare the two. I think he/she wanted to know if its worth waiting for the release of the 991 to see where prices are rather than jump on a deal in front of him/her.

Now if you want to add a little more complexity to the equation, one might consider what the release of the new Boxster will have on the used 997 market because while I agree there is no comparison btwn a new 991 and a used 997 customer, there will be a lot of similarity btwn a person shopping for a used 997 who could be tempted to buy the new Boxster. The new car closes (not entirely) the gaps in terms of styling and performance. Prices will be very competitive with the used 997 market. Add to that a new car warranty and more modern amenities and you have a good case for opting for the Boxster rather than a used 997.1 or .2. Ditto for the release of a new Cayman.

I reiterate my "hold" rating.
