I thought I'd follow up on this thread for everyone.
I did pass on the car. $85k was out of my reach and I want to enjoy the car, not worry about how I will afford it.
So the wholesaler picked up the car from the dealership a few weeks back. I now see it on the Porsche Pre-owned cars search at another local dealer. They must have picked up the car. And they are asking $99.5! I don't think they'll get that.
So in the end, I guess it was a good deal at $85, but a good deal is not a deal unless you can afford it comfortably.
Spring is right around the corner! I hope to pick something up before summer. We shall see. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

I just got my 09 cs, 6 speed coupe, CPO, 5700 miles which listed for 100K.... Low $70s..BTW they asked $80K. So you can find a car in your comfort zone. I was luck in the fact that I wanted a 6 speed, coupe (Price wise).. On the other hand I drove 1500 miles each way to get it.... I noticed prices all over the place. Not sure if my deal was good but it seemed so at this point. NJ dealers wnated way more for the same cars. The fact that I bought a coupe in Fla were everyone must want Cabs may have helped.

You have to be able to move quick and monitor the sites like a full time job. Oh, and willing to drive if you dont want to pay shipping costs. I will be picking up my 2009 997.2 very soon after 2 months of searching. Also, call some dealers and let them know what you are looking for.
Be patient and dont settle for a color you wouldn't normally drive!!!!! I almost did and I'm completely glad I waited. With the newer models coming out there should be more coming on the market.

Your real-life data is certainly interesting. The crazy thing is that this confirms that the P-car dealers are trying to make up for the sales doldrums of 2009-2010. Let me fill in with my 09 C4 I bought new in early 2010. 95k sticker, purchased for 72k. Looking at your recent purchase, two to three years later - the dealers are definitely holding out, hoping to reap a big profit on the 09-10 cars.
Of course, one must also consider what the current market bears. Used Pcar sales are definitely on the high side currently. No way around it - demand is high, supply is low (due to low sales/leases in 09/10).
Best of luck to OP in his search!

Let me add on the 09 Cs ,CPO, 5700 miles, the advertised price was $79,999. This is most of what I found when looking at 09, S cars with CPO and low miles. Sure they can be found cheaper but there is a premium on a CPO, very low mileage cars. I m certain that those last two items add thousands onto the price. Peace of mind having a warrenty till 2016,, I don t know, whats that worth? I traveled because local dealers wanted more money for less car. So, I am confused at the values for sure. I just bought the most car I could find in my price range.

I agree with cerbomark and griffinto...prices are very competitive and just depends on catching a good deal by staying ontop of the used car market aka Autotrader
I looked for nearly a year before I found the right car for me, which I just picked up last week...it's a CPO 09 C4S pdk coupe with an original sticker of $111k and 30k miles, there was a nearly identical car in florida with 10k less miles that would have cost me $8k more but that just wasn't worth it. If you ask me, at some point there has to be a give and take between price and mileage, ideally I wanted something under 20k miles but that was impossible to find for the price range I was in and color combo/options I wanted.
Youll definitely find the right car, just a matter of timing and new used cars coming to be available etc. I bought mine 3k under asking price and luckily verbally commited to the price/had the car on hold because not a day or so later someone offered to buy it for $2k more than my price.
