Problem with DRL Module

Posted this under TT2911's thread about the DRL install instructions, but I thought I would post a separate thread as well.

I purchased the Dectane TFLM-03 Module from Frank at Orange Tuning. I installed the DRL module following TT2911's instructions, but I am having problems. I hooked the orange wire to the positive on my parking lights and the red and black wires to the led foglamps I want to use as DRL's using tap connectors as TT2911 described. However, when I hook the module up to my battery, the fog lights are on all of the time, even when my lights are turned off and I have the key out of the ignition.

I may have damaged the module on installation. I had positive and negative on one of my fog lamps switched. When I connected the module to the battery, it blew the inline 3 amp fuse. I switched the wires and added a new fuse, but when i connected back to the battery, the lights are on constantly.

Anyone have a similar issue?

I emailed Frank to see if he thinks I damaged the unit. Fortunately, it's not too expensive to replace if I did.

My guess is you damaged the voltage sensing circuit in the module. When you first hook the module up it will turn on for about 4 seconds. Once it senses no more current flowing (key is off) it shuts the lights off. If that circuit was damaged when you reversed the polarity it may explain why the lights aren't shutting off. I can't think of any other reason why it would stay on. Let us know how this turns out.

Thanks for the feedback. Frank spoke with Dectane and they couldn't say for sure whether reversing the polarity would damage the unit. Frank offered to sell me another module at cost. Once I get it installed I will let you know how it turns out.

Update

Received and installed another DRL module from Frank and Orange Tuning. Everything is working as designed using my RoTtec LED fog lights as the DRL's. Frank was great to work with and sent me a replacement unit very quickly.

Good to hear it all ended 'OK'.

My DRL's and Module from Frank have just cleared customs and should be delivered tomorrow. Hence, I was paying close attention to your problem. I'll now make triple sure of the wiring when I connect my module up.

What is the difference between the Dectane LED DRL's from Orange Tuning and the Rottec ones?

No difference. Same, IIRC.
