Upgrading radar detector to Passport 9500ci?

LI is the king of jammers in todays market. A good jammer/shifter will not allow a lidar gun to get a good return signal. Different lidar guns have to be jammed differently. They just don't over power them with ir light. The have to send pluses back at a very specific pattern for the different lidar guns. Nice thing about LI is you can update the programing as new guns come out or as MFG change thier lidar guns.
So pick your escort or V1 for radar detection. Then I would go with LI to jam lidar. Once your escort or V1 pick up lidar 99.9999999999% it is too late. Just pull over and get your ticket.

Learn your state DMV laws regarding point policies and transfers, especially if you straddle another state.
For example, if you're registered in NY, speeding points don't transfer from out of state. So 100mph in NJ or CT = fine + possible hassle of court. 100mph in NY = heavy points, insurance surcharge, fine, possible court appearance...
and feeling like an idiot for speeding in your home state.

I've had my 9500ci for a couple years and am happy with the reliability, functionality, and design. I've never owned another detector so no basis for comparison. The GPS feature IMO is of limited use unless you have a habit of running red lights, in which case u prob need a shrink, not a better detector ;-)

Thanks for all the info and links. I've read through most of it and am still not sure which way to go. Options:
- Add LI to current 9500xi or V1, which seems to mean an RDD will pick me up
- Get 9500ci and hope that its laser jamming is adequate for the 911 and Cayman, given their limited vertical frontal area; local dealer is quoting me $2800 installed, which seems darn high
- Get both 9500ci and LI, which pushes the cost way up there, plus two units to operate
A further question is, if I get the LI, which one? There are apparently four products ranging from about $500 to $2000: http://www.radarbusters.com/laser-jammers/6524+6527.cfm#N%3D6524+6527+4295065718%26view%3D24 %26display%3Dgrid_view
Advice requested.

I paid $2k flat for the 9500ci installed at dealer. They wanted around $2800 or so but I told them that the Passport authorized installer in Brooklyn charges $2k so I have no reason to pay more than that, so they caved. I suggest getting quotes from the authorized guys and going back to the dealer.

SOME porsches have an issue with the 9500Ci that causes a slight alternator whine that is impossible to get rid of...
Before anyone says its the installer, don't. This guy is a nationally recognized installer, and has won many awards for his installs...Escort admitted to him that some 911s have this issue with their detectors....
All of that said, I have had several of these in several cars, and they work great.
Another alternative is the K40 installed with Jammers.. its always a cleaner install ( only 2 lights), but does lack the amount of information that the escort display provides...Im getting used to that, and it has "saved" me several times now!!

9500ci
In the two years I've used my 9500ci, I've been tagged just once - because my detailer had turned it off and I'd forgotten to check before heading home (a bitt too quickly!). Love the system, works great in my area and I love the integration & super clean installation.

Good to hear that. Do you know if it's been successful in blocking laser?

My 9500 laser pref was set to "receive" after install (which is the default setting I believe). It is now set to "shift". Just a heads up to any new 9500 owners. I still don't quite undrstand the sws and other last pref setting (tws or something) but turned on everything I could:0
