$2 DRL solution for fog lights
#331
Had this mod shared with me a couple of weeks ago. Can’t remove the light switch from my 2008 997.1 per the direction provided above (push in and turn clockwise 1/8 of a turn). Does anyone have a secret to share regarding how to best remove the switch?

Only 1 rear fog light should be on and it should be the one on the same side as the driver. The purpose is so when the fog is very dense a car overtaking you from behind knows on which side to pass (left of the bright light in the US). The reason the right side light doesn’t work is because the wiring loom in us cars doesn't include the wore in the harness for that bulb even though the light housing does so it can be used in other markets.

I not 100% sure on this since I did this mod years and years ago, but thought after pushing in the switch, you turn it counter clockwise to release the lock and let the switch slide out.

As mentioned above Turn the switch dial all the way counterclockwise then push in and turn clockwise 1/8 turn
or on some switches it can be the opposite turn all the way clockwise push in and turn counterclockwise
you will feel the dial sink in with minimal force
I WOULD NOT recommend this mod as it caused me nothing but problems. I eventually required to have some coding done to resolve a no headlight error. This was not related to bad wiring or a damaged switch, but this mod as it somehow causes a coding error in the ecu.

Just push in the light switch ****, in the OFF position, and turn it gently clockwise until it clicks (half way between the OFF and HOME positions. Then the switch just slides out.
Also, before you start tapping wires, see my simpler instructions here (no extra parts needed):

I've been running this mod since 2012, no issues what so ever.

Hi
I'm from France.
My vehicle is a Boxter 987.1
I just installed the diode hack. My fog lights act now as running lights. Great mod ! Works perfectly.
In france, it is forbiden to drive with FOG lights (without fog). I suppose because the power of halogen bulbs is too high (35W)
I'd like to install H8 LED bulbs, less bright.
I guess 5W LED (400 lumens) would be suitable to run the modified FOG light as DRL.
Do you know where I can purchase this type of LED ?
too bright ! I need less powerful bulbs for DRL use.

EDIT :
H11 LED bulb 7,5W, 450 lumens, canbus, no error
purchased on Aliexpress : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32862689435.html
It works great !
