Back-up Engine Trunk Release 997?
Hi Guys,
I have a question on the engine trunk release...I have a 2007 911s Cab; I have full battery power, front nose releases normally. When I push the engine trunk release I can hear switch/motor trying to release the lid but nothing happens.
I have read many posts addressing similar issues, but nothing specifically giving me the answer I need....HELP PLEASE.
Can I access the cable from the drivers side rear (remove tire and liner/guard)? I cannot get my tail light off to access loop because trunk wont open....
I have read maybe the rear bumper is keeping it stuck & that I can adjust the bumper by turn a few screws? Where are these screws?
Any ideas? Thank YOU!

Have you tried having someone press the trunk button while a 2nd person gently pulls up on the trunk? Maybe its just caught a little? Sorry I can't be more help but I'm sure some of the other guys will chime in. Good Luck

Good looking Puppy!
I did try pushing, pulling & every other position tweek....nothing! Very frustrating. I think it will take some alternate method to get it to release. Now I just need to find out what the alternate way is....

I'd have someone gently push down on the lid while you actuate the release switch and then have them release the lid. If that doesn't work there is a release cable in the driver side tail light recess. Problem is it is difficult to get at. Dealer has a method of access but if they told you how to do it they'd have to kill you. Take it in and they'll have it open in no time, then they can figure out what the problem is. May just need to lubricate the latch itself.

I don't know if you have but, if not, do a search. I've seen lots of threads on this issue but don't remember the answer. My past two Porsche's had the electronic release but I never had a problem. My current Carrera has the manual releases and while I lost two buttons on my fob, I really like the knowledge that my bonnet's will release even with a battery failure.

the emergency pull cable is loosely taped down to rear bumper cover underneath left taillight (as seated in car). It's ~ 1/8" silver braided cable (like a thick piano wire). You might be able to take something (like a hanger covered w/ electrical tape to prevent scratching) and fish for it under taillight. Put a small hook in end (again cover w/ electrical tape to protect paint finish) and insert under light housing and sweep for it. Start in middle (use a flashlight to peer underneath too) and insert your tool 6-8" trying to snag it. It won't take much effort to pull out cable so don't yank hard once you think you have it (just in case you grab a wire which you shouldn't anyway if OEM taillights). If you don't succeed at first, shift a little more inward, go deeper and rotate your grab tool once in. Here's a picture from the service manual w/ it's generic location...
Otherwise you'll have to go in thru the rear wheel liner.
Good luck
