Post Newbie question - DME Scan

I am looking to get a 2009 C2S with a PDK soon. I was browsing some threads where they were discussing a DME scan. How does one obtain the DME scan and how do we interpret the results?

I appreciate your help!

Is a DME scan done in the process of offering a CPO dealer car? Do they care what it shows? I am asking because maybe buying a CPO car would eliminate you needing to worry about the DME report.

Also if you do a search there are of few lengthy posts on the subject.

If it's a "marginal" DME report on a CPO car, I'd make sure the report was attached to the CPO docs to verify that the overrevs occurred before your purchase and that the dealer was aware of them when the car was CPO'd. BTW, overevs are less of an issue on PDK cars.

This is good advice.

I think with PDK its harder to have allot of over revs; if any.

But you should have one done and as suggested if it's "so-so" have it documented if you purchase.

I think range 3 and above should draw concern. Otherwise, your scan is probably golden.

PDK won't let the engine overrev. It's a concern in 6sp cars where drivers can blow shifts and overrev the engine.

I've attached a report you can read about the DME scan. Personally I wouldn't waste my time with a DME report on a PDK. I don't see how the ECU will allow you to over-rev an auto.

The DME is part of the PPI process (Pre-Purchase Inspection) to get your car CPO'ed. If you're buying a CPO you should feel confident. I paid for the PPI & DME, which I regret now. After spending all day driving the car and having a good feel, for $300 I could have cared less that Porsche is going to tell me I need a new wiper blade and that my rears are 5/32's.

so if there are no mods to the PCM or engine the car should hit the rev limiter before entering the BAD ZONEor damage zone.... I m new to Porsche but every performance vehicle I ve ever had is protected by a rev limiter. I bought a CPO car and I didn t get any DME report. After two thosuand miles I asssue the engine is healthy but I still think the engine is protected by a rev limiter and if the DME shows the mileage or date of these so called over revs that would show it was before my ownership.. again my assumtions may be wrong as I am new to Porsche.

Rev limiter won't protect you from over revs caused by missed downshift - that's usually what causes the higher range over revs. DME doesn't show mileage or date but will show the engine operating hour of the last over rev event. Search and you'll find lots of good info on DME reporting of over revs.
