Exclamation Ebay LED Taillight Experience / Warning

I bought some LED taillights on ebay last week and they arrived yesterday.

Got home, put them on in 5 minutes (2 screws to loosen) and they worked great. This morning, I got an error message saying my rear fogs were out. The dreaded " ! ". That's only one of my issues.

When I installed them yesterday I thought... something looks off but never thought more about it until I parked beside an 09 and noticed my lights looked completely different.

So this morning, I went online and looked at the ebay listing and the lights I received were not what was pictured.

Here's the item...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/380414945558

Here's what they were supposed to look like vs. what I got...

I contacted the seller socalvwaudiparts this morning and I will keep you posted on his response and how it all plays out. He's a reputable seller with good feedback so I have my fingers crossed. Should have paid a lot more for the Dectane lights.

Sorry about your problems!
if what you wanted was the 09+ look, you should've gotten the dectane/depo ones

left 997 OEM, right 997.1 Depo/dectane

I seen that compare on another thread and actually just ordered them 30 seconds ago from Frank at orange-tuning. Works out because I ordered front led's from him yesterday and he can combine the shipping.

Now to deal with the lemons I got...

Sucks that they swapped out the lights from what you ordered. I personally prefer the look of the lights that you ordered to the dectane ones.

I simply hate that the dectane's light up in a C and not all the way around. They look nice I guess, but that ruins them for me personally.

You can just tap the brakes to the fogs on the dectanes to get the full brake light effect. somebody did it on the 997TT forum...

I have the exact same lights. I had the same problem when I installed also. Talked to the seller, XRteam, and they sent me out a new one. Got the new one and had the car washed and it filled up with water...contacted them again and got another one. So far they have been working just fine no problems. I actually purchased the Dectane model and those are due in today. I'm going to swap them out hopefully today. I like the look of the Dectane style lights, but the style you have is good...I hope it works out for you. I'm going to put my old ones up for sale her on 6Speed.

So far I've only seen two variations of these lights - the one marketed by ROTEC requires that you remove and replace OEM bulbs from the old fixture into the new fixture plus add a red bulb for the foglight. The other ones are made by DEPO and marketed/distributed by Dectane (and others) - these lights are just plug and play although early model 997's might need the extra resistor pack included. Which ones did you get?

After reading this, I realized that I've never actually seen my tail lights, head lights, or fog lights when they are lit. Whenever the lights are on, I'm in driver's seat. I suppose that I should forget about upgrading to LEDs unless my neighbors tell me that they would prefer to see LEDs when I drive by.

I picked up the ones from Orange Tuning and I was told that the extra resistor pack was included but he has never recieved any complaints in regards to errors on the newer edition of the lights.

Hope this helps.

Absolutely not...

The ones that don't work, were purchased from ebay.

I bought new Dectane one's this morning from Frank.

The ones I purchased are from a manufactured called SPYDER and they didn't come with any extra resistors.

UPDATE:

I heard back from the ebay seller and he said he was surprised and blamed his distributor or something for sending him the wrong parts. I sent pictures and part numbers and I hope to hear back from him soon.

Yeah - i re-read your post. I think you'll find the DEPO/Dectane to work great - sorry about the other experieince. Did the eBay lights require you to move the bulbs around?
