Ginza Man is infamous around these parts
Structural integrity of 911 (997.2)

I wanted to know if any owner of 997 is having any type of structrual integrity issue. My car is 09 C2S and has 38k miles on it. Whenver I go thru uneven pavements and especially at a speed bump going slow, I feel car is squeaking within headliner area due to flexing. This car was never in any kind of accidents. I just think that 997 was not solid as I was hoping for. I took it to dealer but they told me they couldn't duplicate it. May be it's something that I should live with? I had a boxster S (987) but due to its soft top, I never had any issue of noise. I am seriously going back to Boxster S 981. This may sound crazy but this noise is seriously bothering me.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Of course the sunroof is going to flex a bit, under some conditions, audibly with the insulating trim moving, but it is rigid enough. I would not want it to be bank-vault rigid, as a sports car - in a Bentley perhaps.

In any case, the chassis is measurably very rigid, where it counts. These are sports cars, not rolling luxury lounges - oh wait... perhaps the new 991 is that.

Do you hear the noise with the sunroof open? If so, try lubing the sunroof seals with gummifledge. When I had a Boxster 987, the rattles from the soft top drove me batty. Several dealers could not fix it and I eventually traded her in. Since the top was always opening and closing, even when I found and fixed a rattle, it or another one would eventually start up again. The 997 is much more noise free for me at least.

mine briefly had a rattle coming from the..."support tray" (??) that is under the headliner at the rear edge of the sunroof. while roof was open, i kind of just applied pressure upwards to bend it a bit and seemed to do the trick. either way, as said above, it's not a rolling luxury lounge. with everything as tight as it should be and firm suspension, you can expect rattles and squeaks from time to time. esp if you track it. ask me how i know.
