It's been my feeling that contemporary Porsche owners are certainly not the hands-on enthusiasts that lets say a 356 or old 911 owner is. Modern day electronics & technology make being a 'real' hands-on Porsche enthusiast a thing of the past. That goes for most, if not all, modern-day performance or sports cars. Also (IMHO) today's Porsche owner, for the most part, just don't have the 'free time' to spend modifying or just doing 'normal' maintenance. Of course reliability of these cars don't require a lot of hands-on. Remember 'Lucas the Prince of Darkness'. That being said even 997 owners do so much more than the typical 'super car' owner. Maybe w/ the exception of an BMW M3 owner.

Today's owner is passionate about the brand, it's racing history and what it stands for. Most of us owners dreamed about Porsche's long before we actually ever owned one.

This forum, Rennlist and Renntech are loaded w/ owners that are more than willing to share their experiences and help their fellow Porsche enthusiast. I've used these boards numerous times to gain information and know-how regarding a problem or prospective modification.

So that old joke about a 'Porcupine and Porsche Owner' is simply not true.

What we need to do is wave to or signal fellow Porsche owners like was the case many years ago.
