This post invites comments. Several years ago I bought a used Maserati Spyder. Great car, goes like H, expensive to maintain but really turns heads. It doesn't do well in DC traffic so I rarely drive it but enjoy a spin now and then. I have a E350 I use as my daily driver. Last fall, after completing a major project at work, I rewarded myself with a 2009 C2S. What a car!!! I just LOVE driving it and despite intentions otherwise, it is quickly becoming my daily driver. I drove the Maserati to work today (just to charge the battery) and as I sit here at my desk looking out my window at the Spyder and watching people go by and ogle at it, I think, "You should see my Porsche!" I now understand all the Porscheophiles I have known.

BTW, is the Prius now the ugliest car on the road? I vote yes.

For the life of me I cannot understand how designs like that get approved and out the door!! Didn't they focus group test the Aztek at all?

Regarding the Prius, it's also a homely SOB. They way I look at it, it doesn't cost more money to bend sheet metal in an attractive form vs. unattractive. Granted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the Prius is one ugly **** both inside and out IMHO.

 

You don't need a focus group to know that car is ugly! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a focus group was part of the problem!

 

Remember though, this vehicle had one of the best safety records. After owners got one home they were so ashamed of what they had bought that they refused to drive them.

 

Is there anything, short of a real Hummer, that does well in DC traffic? I take my Ford Explorer any time I have to go into the "pothole" city! My C4 has never seen DC and hopefully never will.

 

I Agree... how can ANYBODY sign off on the design of that piece of crapiola was and still is unbelievable... The Head of Design (sic) should have lost his head and a$$ while the door slammed him in the back on his way out!

Remember that the guy responsible tor the Aztek was also responsible for the C6 Corvette. I definitely see some Aztek carry-over in certain elements of the C6.

I also think the way design is done on these kinds of cars (Aztek) is that they assign different designers different parts of the car. Each designer is free to do whatever they want, and sometimes go over board on their "little piece" without regard to other parts of the car. In contrast, manufacturers like Porsche design the car as a whole, each piece relating to each other piece, not just fitting together when the car is assembled.

Regarding the Prius, I see aerodynamics as the primary concern. Style was at the bottom of their list. In that sense, the car is a "form follows function" design. Not pretty, but some people would complain about a car that looks like a "frog" but happens to excel at its function of being an excellent sports car.

 

This Alpine has the wildest craziest raunchiest exhaust you'll ever hear. I still want one of these cars. In Blue of course.
