I have my Porsches and also have an M3 . The M3 does offer less ding worries . My opinion is that the curved shape of the 911 is harder for the average low skill driver to figure out when they park next to it .

The M3 in contrast has no curves . It also has a trunk in the rear which means the driver doesn't face stepping in oil when placing groceries in it.

I don't care for Audi and won't even bring the M3 to Walmart .

I also would not get an M3 convertible and custom ordered my M3 . It took 10 weeks and the process was very smooth and simple. It's hard to locare a manual M3 (mine is) . Most are DCT and the DCT is actually very good in the most recent years . The earlier quirks are resolved and the shift on the new car is quite good . i just preferred a manual because my Porsche is a PDK and wanted some variety.

 

I am thinking the OP is thinking worse than a ding. More like somebody cutting through the top or keying around multiple body panels.

The way I would look at that is...if it happens, yep, your car just took a hit. Insurance will take the financial sting off, but you will always remember your car was treated in that way. The Porsche probably is a little more likely to be treated this way, but I would still rather drive a repaired 911 vs. a clean S5. That is just my opinion.

 

Absolutely on the money.

I owned a 2008 E93 ( Convertible) M3 and then got a S5 Convertible.
I hated every minute of the S5. Nice interior, great sound system but horrible drive. Especially coming from an M3. Loved the M but wanted to get something different.
Ended up keeping the S5 for 4 months and got rid it and got a 2007 C4S Cab.

My opinion. Do not trade your Porsche for an S5.

 

Thanks again guys. I did contact an Audi dealer which is 2 hours from me and may take a test drive. Yes. I drove my 911 yesterday and boy oh boy...IT IS AN AWESOME CAR!

I guess I'm just tired of being "too worried of where I take the car" whenever I go somewhere. Constantly worrying about it when I'm out and about, say shopping. So, yes maybe I need a PSYCH consult. Too ****? Yes. I'm a nurse anesthetist. So it's a GIVEN LOL.

I have had an '11 S4 for about 8 months, and am planning to put it up for sale already-for multiple reasons.

I bought it as a DD and since purchasing it almost new (5k miles) its been nothing but CEL and unreliable hell. Fuel pump, injectors, and the latest-evap "errors". Currently at 12k miles.

Audi makes a decent performing car with great technology, don't get me wrong-but Porsche quality it ain't.

Time will tell what the whole VAG merger does, but this guy, personally just bought his first and last Audi.

 

Don't feel bad, I'm an Urgent care P.A.-C and I'm just as obsessive about my 911. That's why I kept my 2008 Honda accord. If I go to Walmart it's the Honda, to work...the C4S. I think you have to be a little OCD to succeed in medicine.

 

Porsches are meant to be driven, not to live a life as a garage queen. Take it out, drive it hard and enjoy it! That's why you paid the money you paid!

 

+1, I drive my C2S. 15k on the clock on counting.

 

Cant give any advice that hasn't been given, but I just dont understand how one can eliminate the scratch paranoia by purchasing another car of similar value with newer paint. Personally i think you may soon realize your mistake the moment you take that S5 home. Good luck

 

Nope. Never would. If I wanted something other than a 911 that's what I would have. No roving vandalizers hanging around when and where I drive.

I have had an Audi S4 and a Porsche 911. I like the Porsche for the handling, feel, and quality.

 

Drive it and don't worry about it, it can be fixed or replaced.

I am now an ex-997 owner :-( After thinking about this for some time now, I decided to take an S5 Cabrio for a test drive this past Friday. Much to my surprise, the s tronic dual clutch tranny shifts effortlessly and quickly (though I know it doesn't compare near the PDK). I was also taken by the luxuriousness of the interior and the awesome fit and finish of the whole car.

I left there that evening, trading in my beloved 997 for it. I am still a Porsche owner though, as I am planning to keep my Cayenne S for quite some time. I'll just be on the Cayenne forum. LOL.
