Your mechanical abilities... List them!

Not fun at all. 2 of the 6 are very easy...2 are difficult and the remaining two (rear) are

If it breaks, I want to fix it. That's been my motto all my life. I enjoy fixing things and intuiting the original engineers design intent. It's great fun! For most jobs, if you take your time and are meticulous you can do just as good a job, if not better than your local techs... because it's your car and you care about it.
I've only had my 997 for about 1/2 year so I haven't had too much of a chance to fix much:
1) transmission flush
2) shift cable adjust and center console assembly
But a short list on my previous vehicles:
1) First car VW beetle, #3 cylinder threw a rod, rebuilt engine from short block.
2) First Harley, rebuilt top end, added cams.
3) 2nd Harley, matched valve seats to cylinders with a dremel to improve flow. Tech said it was the fasted stock bike he'd ever ridden... hehehe little did he know... Later installed big bore kit, cams and new carb it was a neck snapper after that.
4) Rebuilt carbs on 67 912, later throttle late stuck wide open (not from carbs, pedal was rusted - car was $300 so what do you expect) it sucked an exhaust valve ,so I dropped the engine, took the head off and replaced it.
5) Rebuilt carb and heads on my 64 vespa
6) Replaced everything imaginable on my beater civic: starter, clutch, motor mounts, window regs, etc.
7) And... I also built this bad-*** robot: http://www-robotics.jpl.nasa.gov/sys....cfm?System=11
Sometimes I think I should have been a mechanic, but I love being an engineer too. Anyhow, if you live near Pasadena, CA and want help taking your car apart and putting it back together, I'm down to learn new things and lend a hand.

Granted, all of these were done on my 86 Targa:
1. Replaced shocks on all 4 corners
2. Installed turbo tie rods
3. Replaced headlights
4. Replaced steering wheel and hub
5. Replaced air filter (Germans must have tiny hands)
6. Removed AC and plumbing
7. Repaired fuel door release (hardest and most frustrating on this list!)
8. Replaced engine and tranny mounts.
I'm actually enjoying the fact that I haven't had to do much on this one yet! Just driving the snot out of it.

Hi guys!
You know, if you can do an oil change or just a bulb change, list your abilities... maybe it can come handy next time you are doing something to your car and somebody near you has just done it too and can guide you!
here's what I can and have done...
• disassemble the door panel and install the door finishers/door lids and pulls
• oil/filter changes
• the whole center console and what's around
• parking brake assembly
• shiftknob
• center stack console
• pull apart the AC assembly and the sport/spoiler assembly
• Install seatbelts
• install steering wheel / airbag
• heater core
• complete brakes
• front bumper
• headlights / tail lights / foglights
• GT3 vent grille install
and some more I can remember....
now, what about you?

I've only had my car for a little over a year so I've only had to change the oil a couple times plus the air filters. I will do all my own maintenance short of dropping the engine, simply because I don't have a lift or the tools to do that sort of thing.
I've maintained, built, and inspected aircraft as a living for the past 20+years so I'm confident I could put a wrench to anything on these cars.

I'm new to Porsche ownership, just got my 05 Carrera over xmas. But with 55k miles, I immediately did some 60k mile work:
- Suncoast LED interior bulb change (Had to JB weld the trunk light due to cracking, soldered in all led bulbs in their holders)
- Clear side marker replacement
- replaced serpentine
- changed oil and filter
- replaced sparkplugs and coils (I removed the exhaust headers, so new header bolts and gaskets as well)
- replaced air filter
Next on my list is how to:
- change brake pads\rotors (need to understand and get tools for bleeding)
- replace water pump (I don't have the vacuum tool)
- 9500ci install (need study trim removal, console removal and modification)
- steering wheel upgrade (need that special spline driver)
Porsche- for some reason, I thought only gods could only work on them. I wonder if I could tune up a Ferrari with my set of metrics?
