Tire shop scratched my car!! $1300 damage!! WTF need some advice...
#16
I'm sure someone already mentioned this in one of the posts above... try to find out who the dealer uses for their repair/body/paint work. (If you call, they might tell you). Then go to the shop directly. You'll get the dealership level of quality without the mark-up.

Count me with the group that does a walk around when dropping off a car for service. When they give me the work order to sign, I walk around with the guy who takes the car in and force him to walk with me.
I'd take it to the independant shop. Most do quite well. The questions you ask bw=efore dropping it off should tell you what you need to know to feel comfy. A month ago, i went to a shop I never used instead of the one i've been using 20 years. After a few questions and walk around the shop watching the techs, i knew they were ok to use. They painted my new front lip perfectly matching the paint.
Dealers charge through the nose and they all have the same training. it's attitude that makes the difference.

Frontside,
Number One: This looks pretty small, and not very deep. It will probably buff out, like Josh just posted. Looks like your $1300 quote is for repainting your entire quarter panel and blending it with the rest of your car. Even if buffing doesn't remove the mark completely, do you really want to have a painted panel that may not match with the rest of your car? Have a shop buff and polish it; if you're still not happy, you can always have it painted later. Remember that you will get some small marks from rocks, sand, pollution, etc., here and there, just from regular driving. (I know it's sometimes hard for all of us OCD fanatics to accept. ).
Number Two: Looking at the angle of the mark/scrapes, it looks like something fell from the top onto your right rear fender and slid backwards and downwards. Do you pass under any bridges on your way home from the shop? Do you drive under any trees? I noticed some water on the ground in your original picture? If it had recently rained, a wet twig falling from a tree could have caused such a mark. The backward/downward scrape marks would be the result of the forward motion of your car as something either fell from the top or flew up from the road and struck your moving vehicle. My point is, are you sure it was the fault of the shop???

Thanks for the response.
Number ONE:
I do have the OCD type thing going on with this care but if I can take the big rash an turn it into a tiny stone chip or two (max) I could life with it.
Number TWO:
I'm not sure where you see wet water? If your talking about the first picture, it's not my car. I am certain nothing fell on my car on the way home it's literally a 4 minute walk from my house. The only thing I thought of was possibly a shingle of my neighbours house. I have seen a couple in the yard the last month but I parked pretty far away from there.

I was talking about that pic... Assumed it was your car. I do think this will buff out, probably even disappear. Good luck; let us know how it turns out, but definitely try to have it buffed before you decide to repaint.

You will be surprised what they can do with a buffer. I had a garage door spring break and hit/slide down the hood of a car once leaving a chip in the windshield and a deep gouge all the way down the hood. I was convinced that it would need to be painted but after some work at a detail shop it was almost unnoticeable. That car was black too so it was that much worse.

That really sucks. You might want to do a search for mobile bumper repair services. There have been other members here that have sustained worst damage to their ride and the mobile bumper repair service have been able to make it disappear. I realize the damage is not the bumper but it's worth a shot to have a second opinion before shelling out that much dough. Would hate to open another can of worms by having to redo the qtr panel. Just my $.02. Good luck. I'd be interested on how it turned out.
