Rear weight loss

Im thinking our 997s already float a bit in the front so weight loss should be better placed at the rear. Those lightweight batteries might just increase that floating feeling. Maybe we can start with good reasonable ideas for rear weight loss for our 997's
1. Third muffler delete- this saves a lot of weight but might be too loud for some
2. Replace rear glass with plastic- might be too costly.

Hope we can share other ideas.

The secondary muffler delete is not that loud and it has some weight savings.

The only significant weight savings would be with a Ti exhaust like an Akrapovic, however cost is a major issue for most people. You can potentially drop ~50 lbs from the back of the car but you are looking at 7-12K!

I wouldn't do it on my 997.2 carrera but I would do it on a GT3...

I know that the stock mufflers are heavier than aftermarket mufflers, but how much of a performance gain will you really see by losing the secondary muffler?

I think the only performance gain asked above was about weight loss. Unless a vehicle is going to be raced most of the time, or exclusively, weight loss has little benefit. I would pull the rear seats, replace the exhaust system and the spare tire if I was looking to lose weight. Then lighter wheels can save around 35 pounds. Unlike the OP, I don't have any front-end float.

I knew that 997's didn't have any since that's what this thread started with. I'm not all that knowledgeable with every model.....but I don't remember seeing a spare in my friends. 996 Turbo.

I added a spare to my frunk :-) Thinking of a lightweight battery when it's time to replece to even out the weight gained by the spare.

I don't think they all came with a spare - my Anniversary Edition did.
