Opinion about a new 997.2 price

Hi guys,

I wanted to ask you guys about a price from a brand new Porsche 997.2 Carrera S model. Fully loaded and has a 6-speed manual, PASM and the works. The price is around $90K. I am assuming the price would have been around $110K before the new 991 came out.

Is there still room for negotiation or is it a good price? Also would a base 991 with minimum options and a 7-speed manual be a better buy than a 997.2 S?

Thanks a lot.

I'd take the 997.2, what is the sticker? If it's new then you will know how much MSRP is.

You probably need to find out original sticker to know whether 'around 90' is a good price.

Thanks for the response. So original sticker is $99,800. It has an "on sale" tag for $87,800. There is a new 991 (base) with a sticker of $94,000 but I assume there is very little that I can expect in terms of discounts on the 991. What do you guys think?

^ based on that information, MSRP of 100k, buying for $88k is an okay deal at best

For that price spread...Base 991 > 997.2 S

Ok, a few observations.

1.) It's not a PDK car which is what it sounds like you want, but for the large majority of people looking to buy the car from the dealer...they want PDK. I am speaking strictly price/desirability wise and NOT which is better. The simple fact is more people want PDK then manual. This matters in the price of the car the dealer will take and will make it harder for the dealer to sell it. This benefits you! If the list price of the car is right at $100k I would not pay more then $85k. Why? Because it is a manual and the dealer is going to have a harder time moving a manual then they will a PDK car.

2.) 997.2's have been out for 3 full years now and they are PROVEN to be solid. No ims failures, no issues with PDK <other then a little rough downshift to 1st in sport mode fixed with software update>, and solid tech <led's, updated electronics>. Does the 991 bring more tech to the table? Sure, but I am just a fan of the 997.2 steering. The 997.2 is a lot of things but DULL and NUMB it is not.

I honestly believe the 997.2 is going to go down in 911 history as one of the best most reliable 911's ever made. A car with modern tech and true to 911 handling. Only time will tell.

Just for the record my car had an MSRP of $124,981. I had 5800 miles on it and I paid $85k even with full CPO. The deals are out there, you just have to be patient. If I was buying new I would definitely hit them at $85k even.

This post went from your observations to your opinions faster than a PDK transmission can shift from first to second.

Thanks, Katera! That was helpful. I am looking at manuals only. Also this car has the right color I want (Speed Yellow). Not sure if it's even more difficult for them to sell yellow manual cars

The price between the two you mentioned is close enough that it seems like you should drive the two back to back and make your own comparison. What difference does it make which is the better deal or which will be considered a great car historically? You're the one who has to drive it, so you need to make sure you love it for that kind of cash!

Sounds like a bad deal to me. I purchased an 09 C2S new at the end of that year that listed 101K, and paid 83K. Car is loaded!

I bought a new 2011 manual C4S with sticker @110 for low 90's in September of last year. Would think a motivated dealer would do a lot less than the present offer.

Finally test drove it. Loved the car. I have to say I was a bit surprised by the ride. I was expecting it to be stiffer. I loved the ride though. I used to have a Corvette with the Z51 Performance Package and the ride was very stiff. So compared to that I felt this could definitely be used as a daily driver.

Unfortunately the salesman wasn't willing to budge on the price (almost $88K on an MSRP of 99K). It's probably a good price but I didn't get any counter offer so I walked away. Will probably sleep over it

Thanks for all your responses - they were very helpful.

Just for comparative purposes the dealer where I bought my car in April was offering a new 2012 GTS stickered at $124 for $112.
