Hey guys my 2007 997 got Keyed a few days back while parked on the street....My dilemma is that the insurance companies estimate is 8.7k.....I'm thinking it's going to cost way more as the whole of the car needs to be repainted....I wanted to know

If anyone had a body shop that they would recommend in the San Francisco Bay Area....I would prefer a certified porsche shop....That deals with high end cars ???

How much do you think it will cost to get the whole car repainted ????

Will the body shop take it down to bare metal or try to sand the old paint down to the prime and spray another coat...I'm worried about a bad paint job ???

Your feedback would be well appreciated...

 

I would contact al the local porsche dealers and ask for recommendations.

I don t think they will take the car down to bare metal. They ll scuff it all and re paint.. Maybe a good blend job would be best..

 

If you car has metallic paint I wouldn't want a blend job. Once it's done right it will look new again.

 

If the insurance co already estimated the job ask them how they see how the repair is to be done. That should give you a good starting point.

 

Los Gatos Collision is authorized by Porsche of Stevens Creek (and is pre-approved by a number of major insurance companies). I've not had the misfortune of being keyed and needing a full respray, but they did paint my new aerokit front bumper and the work was immaculate.

Where we're you so I know where not to park? The Ko that works for me just got his brand new hemi challenger keyed last month and it was a full respray. He had 2k miles on the car.

Peeople suck and I'm affraid it's only going to get worse.

I would take it to some HIGH QUALITY PDR/Bumper guy to get some opinions also. It's possible there are some panels that can be touched up while others may need to be sprayed.

Your dealer should have some suggestions as they often use these guys to touch up minor scratches w/o doing full panel sprays.

Most repair shops are going to default to a full sand/paint option. I've seen some amazing work done with an airbrush.

I had a black BMW keyed and had to repaint 1 full side of the car. I got it fixed and traded it in 4 weeks after it was fixed as the paint just never looked 100% to me.

Brooks is one of the best. Eurotech is also good but not nearly as good. Don't go to Dawydiak in SF.

No kidding. I got into a conversation with my much younger brother in law about this. He's a borderline hipster, "occupy someplace", kind of kid.

I'd rather work hard to get in the 1% than ***** about the people in the 1%.

 

OP -- so sorry to hear that. A guy across the street from me had his '10 Panny keyed last month and when he got it back it looked better than new. I'd recommend taking photos before you send it in for your files when it comes time to sell / trade-in.

A whole respray, wow that must have been some built up aggression for the person to attack almost every panel on the car.

 

I am sure someone saw it too but didn't do anything about it. How can one not see this when someone keys an entire car. I had my BMW keyed long time ago so I feel your pain. It sucks. I've learned from another car member to park in front of a camera if possible. He did that and busted the person who keyed his car. It was an older lady, well dressed walking her poodle. He also found out she was wealthy too, not exactly the type of person you would think keys a car. Anywho they settled out of court.
