Anybody Have Convertible Top Replaced Under Warranty?
So I have searched the boards and I know there are "normal" marks that appear on the top. But today I took my care for a full detail with Moe (very excited) and he told me that he did NOT think some of the things he was seeing was normal...especially for a car that is 2.5 year old with only 20k miles.
This is a new to me 09 997. When I pick it up, at night I thought they were smug marks but as you will see below there are bad rub / fray marks. Obviously regardless of if they put a new top on they need to figure out what the root cause is of this.
Moe felt strongly that something was not right and this should be covered under warranty (Car is under original & CPO warranty still). I have talk to the dealer where I purchased it and they have told me they are going to send the pics to Porsche NA and see if they will replace.
Has anybody has dealt with anything like this.
Do these frays look abnormal?

Seeing as you live in LA and probably put your top down several times a week, I'd say you're not too far off from a wear perspective. I've owned a cabrio previous to this and that wear appears to be inline, with 20K assuming almost daily use.

As stated above, it really depends on how the top has been maintained and how much it has been put down. The top actually looks weathered and very dry. If the car has spent a lot of outside time and it's been retracted a lot - and not UV protected with a good cleaning and conditioning - then this is not too bad. Tops on Cabs are consumable items like tires. I've had three. Talk to your dealer and ask them but I'm guessing they're not going to replace it.

Interesting...what year is yours? I'll let you know what happens...I just strongly feel that some marks are normal but there should be nothing that the top rubs against to cause the fabric to fray. Manufacturing defect.

I have a 2009 C2S with 14000 miles.
My roof also has similar wear marks on both sides including the fraying of the canvas as per your pictures.
I agree that I believe something is wrong, the hood will crease but it's not acceptable for the hood to fray as this would suggest something is rubbing or out of alignment.
I have had a number of other canvas roofed cars and never had an issue with fraying.
I'm looking for Porsche to replace my roof and fix the issue.

Phantome46,
I could not have said it better myself. Creasing is part of having a canvas top but you are dead on about something being out of alignment causing fraying.
Let me know what happens with you and I'll do the same.
