Will do. They said it can be installed black or painted, but I will probably want it painted. That might take a couple of weeks with Berli's. I will let you know and we can grab a beer once it is installed.

If there are ever any meets up in your neck of the woods let me know as I'd like to see the lip as well.

First DIY Oil Change

I decided that my first step down the rabbit hole of forced induction is to start checking the health of my engine. This is my first DIY oil change in about 10 years since I used to work on my BMW 328I cab. Everything went very smoothly with my two and a half year old son helping and giving color commentary such as "what's that" and "why". I even got the fill level perfect with no top off required.

I collected a sample of the oil for Blackstone, and I will report the results when they get back.

I also took apart the filter to look for any metal shavings that could indicate IMS problems. As you will see in the pictures below, no problems. I really can't imagine the filter looking any cleaner if it had just been soaked in clean oil. Things are looking good so far!

Valentine One Remote Display install

My car came with a V1 hardwired above to the right of the mirror and wired for the remote display. I found that it also came with the remote display later on when I was cleaning out the car. I hadn't used it because it didn't seem necessary. However, I started screwing around and found that it fit nicely above the steering column. I just had it sitting there and it worked great, but I couldn't see the strength indicator or rear arrow because it sat too low.

I found a nice rubber foot at Lowe's that I adhered to the remote display. This gave it the correct height. I didn't want to permanently stick this to the column, so this solution is perfect. I can just grab it off of there if I don't want it visible or get sick of it. Here are some pics.

GT3Tek Front Lip Arrived

My lip came in this evening, which is record time because I ordered it from California on Thursday afternoon....very impressive. It came sort of rolled-up in a box, so I let it sit in the sun to pop back into position. I grabbed some clamps and did a temporary install to see how it looks. Looking good! I will take it to Berli's Body Shop for paint as soon as I can get an appointment. Here are some pics:

The front looks super low with the lip. Are you sure you want to paint it because the first thing you hit with it might wipe it out?

The shadow makes it look a lot lower than it is. I doubt it is even an inch lower at the front, which is where it dips down. It fits snugly to the bumper at the wheel arches.

I really like this lip a lot but I'm on the fence post given my car is lowered. Do you know roughly how much clearance you've lost (how far does it extend down)? As mounting is concerned, it is a screw-on process?

It looks really good on the car!

I just did a temporary install, so the front lip looks lower than it will be when the tape is holding it on at the front. I'm thinking about 0.8" drop at the front and none at the sides. That plus a 1" suspension drop will probably be too low. I am taking it to Berli's now for a consult. I have some minor paint damage to the fenders that I will probably have them repair also. I will let you know when I get it back and we can meet.

I just got back from Berli's, and they were hesitant to install an aftermarket part. They mostly handle collision work and were not familiar with this part. We did a test fit in the parking lot, and they thought there were gaps that wouldn't come together correctly with just a few screws and a tape strip. We thought that maybe the part was defective.

So, I called Joel at GT3Tek and told him how my meeting went. He assured me the part is not defective and the install is super easy. I asked him to call up to the shop and convince them to complete the install. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Did Berli's give you an idea of how much they would charge to paint it? Berli's does an awesome job, but they can be a bit slow in getting things done.

I got a ballpark quote over the phone of $175-$300 to paint and install the lip. And yes, they are very slow. My wife's Cayenne S took a rear bumper hit and they took 6 weeks. I hit a deer in my Avalanche with no structural damage and they took 6 weeks. But their paint looks great and the vehicles come back completely detailed.

I have you topped. I had a car hit my Infiniti M45 in the rear left fender that damaged one of my wheels along with the rear bumper, light and fuel filler neck and door. Most of the parts had to be shipped from Japan so all in all the repair took about 3 months in Berli's shop! The repair looked awesome plus they wet sanded a couple of areas that had some scratches from a cat that loved to jump on my car.

Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis Results

Well, this is looking good so far. Now to move on to a compression test and a more thorough inspection.

"Your Porsche looks good in analysis. Metals are all in the average range and they're well balanced
compared to averages to show no problems among wearing parts. Averages are based on 4,000 miles, so
it's notable that you're getting comparable (or better) wear despite a longer oil run. Adding a turbo may
change the way your engine wears. More power usually equates to more wear, but your engine makes good
numbers now, so more metal shouldn't be a problem. The viscosity was fine and no contamination was
found. Good luck on the turbo install!"
