Plenum or Not to Plenum that is the question?
Hi
I have a 2008 Carrera (gen 1), with a Tubi exhaust and EvoM CAI, amongst other things. Does anyone believe the hype about IPD Plenums......the science makes sense to me but do you really see (or feel) 10+ HP gains from that change. Also since i already have an exhaust system i love i am worried this is not worth the money?
Would it change the sound also?
Grateful for any insights from the P-Car masses

FYI, its hard to detect 10 hp increase with your butt.
i have RSS plenum installed on my 07. I tried it because they offered money back if i wasn't satisfied..lol. And i got too lazy to take it off and get my money back.
if IPD has the money back guarantee, i would recommend trying it with the 997.1 gen. and see if u get some of the low end torque back since its possible u lost some back pressure with the Tubi. if u don't feel any change, u can just get ur money back.
IPD makes top notch products. However, plenum mod is better suited for a turbo, IMO.. and honestly, $895 is steep for something that will get u minimal gain, if any at all. Plus u prob have to spend more money to get a ecu tune to really tie everything together.
in fact, i would prob spend the money for a 200cell cat and a tune, instead.. or save for a turbo/SC mod..
BTW that yellow gt2 is IPD prez Mike K's car

same here. by design it cannot make anything worse imho.
can or cannot it improve anything is an open question. if you have an itch to try - try it out, it will not hurt if you have extra $1k for it.
in my current state of $ i would rather spent it on tires.
no matter what you or I bolt on top of any 997.1 car it is not going to run like 997.2 GTS engine does. new 9a1 motor is way better.

did a great deal of reading - no dyno results showed the claimed gains, except for those on their website. But, given the simplicity of the install and other positives that I had read, installed it this past Friday. NO dyno was done, but here's what I noticed:
Engine idled quieter - less noise at idle. this was an immediate change
Drove about 30 miles, did a few 30-70 ish jaunts in 2 and 3 gears, and after the car seems to sound smoother, be more responsive, breathe easier, but I'm unable to ascertain if its actually faster, but butt dyno felt that way.
Next change is probably cosmetic - ground effects, front lip, side skirts, etc. and for performance, maybe suspension and tires.

IPD plenum noticeably helped bottom end torque. I could tell between 1500 and 2000 engine doesn't lug as hard. I'm now shifting way sooner than before. I was a skeptic at first, but it does help a little bit.

There a plenty of mods where you know what you are getting in terms of performance or enjoyment -- DE, fresh/better tires, pagid yellows, any cosmetic mod, etc. A plenum is almost the complete opposite in that regard. At least with cats, headers and intakes you know the sound is going to improve, and with PSE and aftermarket mufflers costing in the thousands, any performance gain is just gravy.
Also, and this is a general comment about all aftermarket manufacturers: Why would you believe the dyno charts they run and post about their own products? In almost every other (non-automobile) consumer products out there -- cameras, tv's, leaf blowers -- consumers expect and receive independent testing. Heck, even the 911 itself, like all cars, is subject to a battery of independent (well, sort of!)
testing by the auto press. I'd love to see some basic framework for doing the same with these aftermarket parts. Until then, I don't see how guys can get all excited about dyno curves published by manufacturers on their own products.
If, as some have speculated, we've evolved to the stage where Porsche leaves very little on the table with the NA engines, do you think the aftermarket makers are just going to shut down their bolt-on businesses and call it a day? I'm not making accusations or pointing specific fingers, but if you don't take those dyno claims with a heavy dose of skepticism IMHO you are just fooling yourself into believing what you want.

I have the plenum as well, in conjunction with full cargraphic set up (headers, cats, mufflers) bmc filters and softronic tune
I have not had the car dynoed at all to get a concrete number but doing them one at a time the butt dyno does feel a small difference

Rationalization for inaction. Yawn. Whatever gets you through the night. Or you might try it and if you decide you don't like it send it back. I did and I didn't. Don't be afraid to move your torque curve around a bit. Puts more fun in your driving. No reason why Porsche has to do all the work for you.
