12 Volt Shut Off?

I realized that when I have something plugged into the 12 volt power that the power is constant even after the ignition has been shut off. I also confirmed it in the manual.

Is there a way to have the 12 Volt power turn off when the ignition is shut off?

Thanks in advance!

not that I'm aware of... besides putting a "kill switch" on your battery or in front of your fuse box..

I know that the owner's manual states that the electrical sockets function even if the ignition is switched off or the key is withdrawn.

This has been a point of confusion for me, since, in my car, my portable navigation device does turn off automatically after some time when I shutdown the car. (The navigation unit is plugged into the footwell outlet).

So, I am guessing that it is indeed possible to make the outlets "switchable" and I am guessing that the previous owner must have made the modification. Unfortunately, I am not sure what he did.

You need to 'tap' a switched 12V line. Most go to the fuse panel for that switched line. I did that for my Valentine radar detector (so it would turn on/off w/ the ignition). Just do a search for 'hard wired radar' and you'll find a bunch of threads pointing you to the direction you want.
