Ziebart Clear bra - Opinions??

Hey guys,

I received a Groupon deal for a Ziebart $129 clear bra, I find the price really hard to believe. Anyone have any experience with these guys or their quality?? Best price I found was $600 so $129 has my head scratching.

For those interested,

skeptical - it is unclear what type of product they use.

the 3m stuff seems to be best, and there are definitely cheaper types that will yellow. i had mine done by Fairfield Porsche using the latest 3m product 5 years ago and it looks like new after 23,000 miles

Yeah, I was quoted $600 for 3M. So can't make much sense on this.

that said, may be worthwhile for a less expensive car...and for that price, if you don't like it, just peel it off... my quote was $600 for 3M also - though the dealer included the price in my deal.

At that price, it's less than one cheap detail job. So, no big deal.
That said, the real risk is in how the installers work with the material.
Some will cut directly on the surface of your car.
Not really the 'recommended' method. I'd check that part first.

And to add, it was said in another place, "you buy the installer, not the film".

Ziebart has been around for a long time. The material is probably fine. What does the "bra" include? Obviously it won't be the mirrors, strip above the windshield, front half of the hood, bumper and front part of the fenders. Whatever is done is probably pre-cut and installs quickly. After reading the ad, it is, in fact, pre cut. This gives you less coverage and more exposure. I would pay the actual real-world cost to have it done properly the first time.

I'm going to call there tomorrow and find out exactly what this 129 special is all about.

First of all this will be more than likely a hood, fender, mirror kit. It will be precut.... but the whole nonsense on "it doesnt cover as much" is false. There are precut kits (I install) with wrapped edges so the coverage is the same but there isnt any cutting on the car. I have heard of other installers doing this groupon deal where they are pushing the hood, fenders, and mirrors and will upsell you on the bumper and other areas once you are in there. Mainly because the bumper is the most important piece so its an easy sell. As far as 3M goes there are MUCH better films out there on the market (Xpel and Suntek) to name a couple that have self healing topcoats. 3M is also very pricy because you are paying for a brand name... but the film IMHO is terrible because it has too much orange peel in it, is a pain to remove (the adhesive stays with the paint), and doesnt hold up too well in hot weather climates. I have seen it completly crack after 4-5 years n the Texas sun. But that is only my experience and I have been installing film for 10 years now. Other installers still like it...

Anyway I would be interested in hearing what you find out. Please post back and let us know.

It's certainly not false. It may differ from your opinion, but many (if not all) of the pre-cut packages I've seen do not fully cover all the paint they are meant to protect. Your opinion can differ, but that doesn't make it correct (or others false).

I've been looking to re-film my car since I got it. The film on there now is original, car is 07. It's not the best job as you can see the cuts around the light washers, emblem, ect. Quotes around the Bay Area run from 1k min to 2k for full wrap. Porsche tax is high in Cali!! Sucks!!

Turns out this is just hood and fenders. No bumper and No mirrors. They said 550 for the entire thing. Which seems on par with what everyone else has been listing. I put a call in to buy just the hood & fender for 129 and get a deal on the bumper but he couldn't provide me a price.

Yeah, where are you guys getting this done for 500? I've called around the Detroit area, all 900-1000. My buddy in Toronto got me a guy for 600. But it's a 4 hour drive!!
