brake squeal

The rear brakes on my 997 (standard, non-PCCB) squeal on soft to moderate braking at generally low speeds. Seems to happen after a bit of driving. Visual inspection of rear brakes shows decent life left in brake pads and rotors. Rotors are fairly smooth, no obvious ridges. It's very annoying though. I have already tried doing a session of 8-10 hard brakes from about 60mph to 5mph to remove any glazing, but it didn't seem to make much difference.

Talked to my dealership rep and he said that "performance brakes do squeal". Basically, he's telling me to just deal with it. Is there any argument I can make to convince him to get the service guys to look into the issue? My car still has 2 yrs left of CPO warranty. Thanks for any advice!

I think a lot of us have the same issue, including myself. Apparently it's very common with these brakes. PCCBs I'm told do not have his problem.

This thread discussed the same issue very recently.

Most of the time issues are common, if you search it, there is probably more threads about this issue.

Thanks for the suggestion amge63, but I already searched and actually posted in that very thread you mentioned. By the sound of things, it looks like I should just deal with it.

I have the same issue when it's humid and I have PCCB's.

60-5 braking isn't going to do you anything. When I want to clear any glazing of my brakes I take it up to about 120 and do a nice hard stop to 0. Repeat and I'm good.

Glad the wash technique worked for you.

Guys,
Just hose-off the brake dust/residue once a week.

this is the brake dust. try rinsing your brakes with water. it'll come back eventually.

Im an 08 4S at 37k, and my rear rotors have a slight ridge on them... I used a die grinder on my r32's ridge and cross directioned the ridge down and no more squeal.

So, im going that route with these too. im not taking them off or re cutting the rotors....(not recommended), but just a green coarse sanding disc.

good luck.

I had the same issue when I installed my Pagid brake pads. I was told by everyone, "this is expected with this type of brake pad". I tried hard brakes, cleaning rotors, more hard braking, nothing seemed to work. If braked harder than normal, then I don't have the issue.
Although it took a few thousand miles, it eventually went away.
