Incorrect Fuel Level 911S MY2011

I have taken it to my dealer twice but ran out of gas again on Friday. The "consider remaing range" warning came on and within 15 miles I was out of fuel even though the car showed 34 miles to empty.

I have a 2011 911S and do not get more than 15 miles after the fuel gauge hits the yellow section even though the manual claims that there should be over 2 gallons of fuel.

Any similar experiences and how was it fixed

You need your instrument cluster re-programmed/calibrated for the fuel tank. It is a task that can only be done with PIWIS/PIWIS2.

Thanks bbywu. I have an appointment Wednesday and give your suggestion to the service writer.

Maybe consider not running the fuel level down so low? 34 miles remaining vs 15 miles remaining? Those are pretty small numbers in any case.

I noticed the same problem occasionally with my 991S (though I haven't run out yet). Especially on the track, the gauge does not always keep up with consumption and the needle will show 3/8 of a tank left while I know I'm closer to 1/8 and then the "Mind remaining range" light pops on.

BBYWU - thanks for the suggestion. I will go to the dealer as well.

34 miles then drops to 15 and zero, that's not right. I'd definitely get it reprogrammed. But the guage should be accurate, it shouldn't be your responsbility to fill up pre-maturely because the gauge is wrong. I don't run my 911 that low. But I've filled my DD's 13 gallon tank to 13.8 before (yeah, fumes!)

Update. spoke to my service writer at the dealership to go over what had been done. The first time they replaced the high pressure fuel pump, the second time they found the fuel pump installed wrong, reinstalled and recalibrated system. They are now coordinating with Porsche HQ in Atlanta for a solution. I am hoping they get it fixed this time. Otherwise I will have to consider a lemon law case and I am not sure how that will work with extra money I have spent on the tubi exhaust, air box, and chip.

"It shouldn't be your responsibility..." WTF is up with that? Its your car - everything about it is your responsibility.

Maybe there is a problem (as it turned out there was) but in the meantime, fill it up sooner ferchristsakes!

Yep. Never let it go below 1/2 tank, until you're sure it's fixed.

Drive 200 miles and get to the next pump.... assume there is some crapiola in the bottom of your tank that might get sucked into your system... filter or not. Just common sense I picked up while driving British cars. LOL

Finally Fixed. The dealer removed the fuel sending unit and found it was faulty. They replaced it under warranty and now my readings are correct.
