06 clutch job, while you are at it.......
have an 06 56k miles C2, clutch real stiff, engage point very high.
plan to do clutch soon.....
but been reading on the forum, seems like a good time to do "while you are at it" preemptive maintenance to save future labor.
let me know if the list make sense ? or not really worth it..
1. clutch.
2. alternator cable ($100 part) (starting has always been a little lazy)
3. new starter ($214 part)
4. Air Oil Separator ($124 part)
5. replace drive belt and belt tensioners
6. RMS ($20)
7. IMS - not sure what the cut off point is for the 06, ones without replaceable IMS.
8. flywheel - ($900 part) what's the reason behind many stock flywheel failure I've read about ? might as well go with a light weight flywheel imo.
9. transmission fluid flush. it got to be easy with transmission sitting on the bench !!
thanks.

Looks like a good to do list to me. Item # 3 probably makes sense although I'm not sure what the life expectancy for the starter is. For item # 7 the newest IMS bearing has the 22 MM nut so it will be apparent once the trany is removed which one your engine has. As for the flywheel it makes sense to me to replace it with the clutch. As for the LWFW, do some research before you decide. I have read that the LWFW can lead to problems with the crank shaft due to balance, harmonic and shock loading issues related to the significant weight variance. The link below will explain the issue more thoroughly.

One thought...you have alternator cable and starter both listed and you note "starting has always been a little lazy". I have a 2005 and changed out the battery around 2010/11 as the starting was a little lazy. It did get a little better, but I would say that it is still a little lazy, but never fails on me. It just doesn't snap around like some car's starters that I have driven.
Anyhow...I am thinking that it is possible that both the starter and alternator cable are fine and the car just doesn't have a high torque starter motor. Would be interesting to see if people have the same experience.
At the same time...I get your point. When you have the tranny dropped...it is a numbers game to change out some parts for cheap when access is good. I think you are doing the right thing by taking advantage of the opportunity...but personally would not do the two above. I don't have much experience with the other parts...
Now IMS...I have an '05 that needs an upgrade. I have actually been hoping for the clutch to fail...

cable is only $100. probably takes 5 additional minutes to swap out. in the scheme of $2,500 clutch / flywheel, it really is nothing. I've read starter can go bad also, it is also a 10 minutes job while everything is out... that's why I thought of both....
I hate the IMS thing. once the transmission is out, sitting on the lift. it kinda of suck to find out then you need an IMS........but if I buy it beforehand, and found out it is one of those non-changeable, kinda suck too....

I think your list is pretty reasonable. You would be taking care of all the laundry list at once. The shop, at least if it was my shop, should not charge you a lot for extra work, if one thing thank you for it.

is plug change any easier with transmission out ?
I guess I should also add transmission fluid flush to the list..... it would be super easy with transmission outside the car
