Funny, my wife had the same reaction with her 2011 Carrera S cab. We're in San Mateo but I have a work-at-home buddy in Fremont so I could have dropped the car off @ Sharkwerks, had lunch & a couple of beers with him, and then drove it home. She said no dice. The only mod I've been allowed to do is clear corners (which I snuck on).

Gundo and SW bypass and car has been in several times for warranty/cpo stuff with zero issues. I think it comes down to if you have a relationship with the service writer or not.

Finally installed the fister mufflers and sharkwerk x-pipe on my 09 997.2S. Wow what a difference. Cold start up is slightly louder than stock. The stock set up was pretty quiet imo until you pass 5000 rpm.

The first couple revs right after the install Went like vrooom VROOOOO..Crackle, then POP! Wow what a great fierce sound.

Once I got on the road I noticed on soft acceleration it's not very loud until you pass 3000 rpm. 3k to almost redline sounds amazing, I don't know how else to describe it. When I down shifted I noticed Gurgle notes coming from the exhaust.

IMO Stock set up, non-pse was 6. I remember upon test drive at dealership, I thought it sounded so good. Eventually i started thinking it's too quiet and It should sound more aggressive and match the performance this car offers. Sharkwerk + Fister is a 9. Not too loud, Definitely not Ricey, but Aggressive with sophistication, when you want it.

Got the install done at Rennwerke in Elmsford NY. The owner Cheech is a good guy. The garage is one of the cleanest I've seen. Great work that took under 3 hours. Great price. Highly recommended for those in NY NJ CONN tri-state area. Right off 287.

Another bonus was all the Porsches in the place. Easily over 150 cars there, so many different models and generations, the lot was like a museum.

I realize that this is a pretty old thread but the info contained within is both very informative and still holds true today.

One thing that stood out in one of the post was a comment that said that the straight cross over pipes create/generate more "Crackle & Pop" than the X-pipes when you lift your foot off the gas.

Since I'm not a fan of the "Crackle, Pop" sounds, can anyone who's made either of these mods please state their experience as far as the absence or muting of these sounds?.

My ultimate goal is to do the Gundo Hack and either the X or cross over pipe mod.

2009 C2S, Sharkwerks X pipe, nothing else, no sport exhaust

The crackle pop is over exaggerated. You get it if the engine is cold and you lift the gas causing the car to push the engine. I actually enjoy this as it is very very similar to the sound race-prepped cars make when they shift. After about 30 seconds or so, the sound is diminished.

It is all your taste, but I do find it odd you want to do mods that will make a louder, more aggressive sound yet don't like this aspect of it.... to me, it is all one in the same... but to each his own.

I only really hear the crackle pop in garages or next to a wall. As I noted above, it is over stated.

Peace

I have a similar setup with Fabspeed X-pipe and Fister mufflers- the sound is perfect, and never an issue with the dealer doing service while under warranty.

SharkWerks 997.2 Exhaust (Center muffler bypass)

I have Shark Werks with PSE and there is a lovely burble off-throttle. As stated above you get a more robust sound (almost a crackle, never a 'pop' like my 84 GTI used to do) when the engine is cold but that transitions to a more subtle sound when the engine warms.

After a couple more times driving it since install, I agree the crackle is more so when the engine is cold. The burble still happens when engine is warm. I hear it a lot when I'm in 1st and 2nd gear after I take my foot off the gas.

I also have to add the car is noticeably louder at all levels, start up, regular cruising, pushing it. If you really baby it then it's as if you have no mod, but regular acceleration definitely sounds louder and more aggressive. I'm definitely happy I went ahead and put sharkwerks x pipe with fister exhausts at the same time. It's what I expected and isn't overkill. The sound is as unique as the car now.

Carnewal center bypass

Hey guys, just got my new to me 997.2 S(MY09).

Every forum speaks about x/cross pipes from different manufactures but i recently saw that Carnewal has a center muffler that they probably gutted out. Was curious if anyone has done it.

I did the gt exhaust on my 987.2 and had loved it. Now looking to do the gundo on sides and after reading, I need to do the center to complete.

thanks,
Alec

I had SharkWerks center muffler bypass installed on my 2012 997 GTS (which did have PSE).
I loved it. You will loose some silky refinement but the added noise makes up for it.
I would recommend it.

I recently purchased a 2012 GTS that came with the Sharkwerks bypass. Found it heavily recommended years leading up to now. Sounds good in my opinion, retains the valves that came with the car.
