Audio is done by the iPad. The head unit is gone. The iPad plays thru the car's speaker via and adapter that plugs on the connector that used to plug on the back to the PCM to a break out 30 pin cable that comes from the ipad. Pretty much is an iPad dock with audio out that goes to the car's amplifier and speakers... so whatever sounds the ipad makes, you will hear thru your car.

When you have an ipad/iphone/ipod connected to a switched power source, they ipad is always charging and not using it's battery. When the the iPad is playing and the power source is interrupted, the song will pause and after a minute or so, the iPad will go to sleep mode. Once you switch back the ignition, the ipad will wake and if you hit play, it will resume in the point where it was before...

Here is a dumber question. If the iPad is wifi only how does it connect to the net as described in the video I attached?

Theoretically, once you have constant connectivity to the web, whether by wifi or cellular hotspot...the maps app could serve as the turn-by-turn navigation in the car, correct? Have you tried that yet?

Ok so you do need a cell phone or a cellular enables iPad mini. I see the Ford commercials where the radio connects to Pandora and wondered how the car connected to the web.
Thought there was something new installed in the car.

Just place it on the glove compartment and connect up to 8 devices and enjoy internet at 4G speed.

And yet another cell bill each month. We spend 400 a month now with all the phones and tablets. Look pretty cool though. Is that's what is in the new cars with the built in Internet?

for data
you can also consider http://www.netzero.net/
buy the device for $49, plan is cheaper (depends on how much data you need)
free for 200mb/month (free for up to 12 months)
$10 for 500mb/month
$20 for 1GB/month
$35 for 2GB/month
$50 for 5GB/month
I am sure you can find a way to charge the device.

All you need is a 4g enabled iPad rather than just a wifi iPad. There are plans where you pay an extra $10 a Month to enable the data plan for a tablet. Pandora can get pricy though. Luckily I have unlimited data plan. What you can also do is jailbreak your iPhone and use pdanet to secretly use your cell phone as a hotspot for free!! That's what I do!
