Updated your sound system.....value issues?
In considering replacing the OEM system what should be taken into consideration in terms of resale issues.
What system do owners prefer?
As usual thank you.

what are you looking to upgrade? the headunit? speakers? adding subs and amps? you could return it all back to stock when you're looking to sell. i think most buyers would prefer an OEM stereo. it usually means less headaches.

The speakers are fine....the head unit is really old school,,,,no ipod interface, grainy display,GPS not so hot, no DVD. Perhaps I should have bought new. But modding makes me happy. Something to look forward too in an otherwise dull life.

For me, when buying cars, I want the stock system. I've never seen electrical problems caused from the OEM unit. However, there is a constant parade of forum members who have created issues from changing out their OEM stereo in one of these newer cars where the electrical systems are so intertwined that changing on piece can cause issues down the line. Not always, but more than left stock.

the radio is pretty easy to swap in and out. euro motorspeed offers free soldering services so you don't have to cut your harness and it's completely plug and play.

If done right, an aftermarket will sound better than the base or Bose OEM systems by a wide margin. Even the factory Bose system leaves many things to be desired (the quality of the speakers / tweeters / woofers is really crappy even compared to Alpine, let alone Focal). There is a lot of signal processing even in the HU sacrificing clarity for bass output. However, with the shape and size of the 997 interior, it's rather difficult to create a sound experience that is acceptable to an audiophile, but I digressed.
The only issue of all aftermarket system is to find an installer who does a clean install with no messes left around AND easily reversible. I would definitely recommend keeping all your OEM components so you can reverse it at the time of sale / trade.

My stock Bose system does the job. Is it great? Not really but i have a killer system in my daily driver.
I'm in the industry and toyed with idea of putting in a major system. Then I woke up. Too much extra weight.
I have to admit, 90 % of the time, the volume's down because the engine is the music.
I did install a Dension gateway 500 to use the iPod & iPhone on long, constant speed highway drives.
Didn't bother with the phone integration since I really don't want to talk to anyone when I'm out for a spin. Besides, you can hit "speaker" on the phone & your hands free anyway.
As I have an S with PCM navi & Sport Chrono, you lose all those features and then nothing would show in the tach lcd.
If none of this matters and then go for it.
But keep the old system and include if you ever sell the car.

Is the Dennison 500 the least intrusive way to get an aux input? That's all I'm really looking for. Ideally, I'd love to find something that I can remove the CD Changer in the boot and plug a long adapter wire right into that connection. I could then feed that wire back to the glove box for storage of an MP3 player.
I'm not looking for audiophile quality, I'm looking for an easy way to play the output of a handheld device (Ipod, generic MP3 player, etc.)
I'd love not to have to tear into the center console as well. that is why I'd love to find an adapter to go in the boot area. I only have a PCM 2 (CD version). No bluetooth, etc.
Any thoughts?

I'm probably the exception but I'd pay more for a car with a aftermarket system IF and only IF it was very high end and I could tell it was done correctly.
I'd only be willing to pay maybe 25% of the actual hardware costs though.

The dude installed my Gateway 500 is 45 minutes. Really! I watched him do it. Astonishing because he even did it on site!
Mounted the brain unit behind the radio and the connector box (about 2" square) in the center console. I attach a pic l8r. It has USB, iPod & rca inputs. Its a sens/receive fibre optic connection to the head unit.
I didn't much care for the changer so it's still in the boot but disconnected. If you still want the changer, then they'll be a switch that you flip back & forth between the changer & iPod.
Drawback is that the Dension brain will be mounted in the boot by the cahnger & you'll have to buy a longer extension cable to run into the cabin for hook up.
Then from what I understand, the little box is usually in the glove box.
To Boosted:
"High End" is a relative term. If your listening to CD's at wave quality, not MP3, then okay. MP3 is compressed and cleaned up cassette tape to me.
With my daily driver (4Runner) I'm running fibre optic, DVD DTS surround and Butler Audio tube amplifiers with compete parametric eq & time alignment.

Contact Eric.Great guy!
Check out the Dension 500 or better yet the Dension 500S for integration!

I upgraded my speakers, but left the stock look. As mentioned above I'd never buy a used one with an aftermarket system. You're better off keeping the OEM and swapping back after you're done.

Same here.
As a reminder, most add-ons don't add to the value of the car when reselling. I, myself, would also pay just a little bit for an high-end install. However, we are the exceptions.
FYI, when I sold my 370Z after owning it for a year, the dealer ask for the custom installs be removed and the car restored to factory specs.
