How to pop out Pill in 997 Key Remote?

anybody know how to remove the RFID "Pill" inside the 997 key Remote? I've got an old 997 key and a replacement 997 key and I'm not sure if I'm to pop the pill out with tweezers or? It doesn't seem to want to pop out and I don't want to scratch it badly or wreck it. It's glued

If the key module is like the ones for the 996 modules the pill is kind of held in place/secured by a spring backed clamp.

Carefully separate the key module halves -- there's a small diameter o-ring that seals the head against moisture.

The pill is visible and I see in my key a plastic piece that clamps/holds the pill secure in the cavity it resides in. Gently push the plastic piece back and release the pressure on the pill and it should fall out.

Be careful you do not lose it or break it for that will mean the engine will not start with this key. I do not know if it makes a difference -- the pill is not symetrical over its length so it probably does make a difference which end goes in which direction -- so note which end points which direction so you can install the pill back in the same orientation.

Also, if the 997 key is like the 996 key the new key module's lock/unlock feature will not work until the RF id that this has is introduced to the car's security system.

To ease reassembly of the key halves use a bit of vegetable oil. The o-ring sometimes gets pulled out of its groove and makes getting the halves back together a pain so check for that too. Too many module separations will eventually have the o-ring ruined.

997

thanks for your reply, the 997 key has the RFID pill firmly sitting in a slot and there is no way to get it out or release it as far as I can see, seems glued in there. I tried to get it out with a dental pick tool even and nogo
I tried to post a picture of the inside of the key but on my iPad and not able to.

There's a DIY floating around somewhere with great pictures. I believe the RFID chip was loosened with GooGone and then pried out using an exacto knife. IIRC, the spring loaded device in the 997 key housing is a locking mechanism to hold the key blade in the housing.

See if this helps.

It's glued in and can be tricky to get out. Follow the DIY's. Worst case use small wire cutters and cut the plastic around it. Yes this method destroys the old remote head but saves the RFID chip.
