M96/M97 engines have very big failure rate, look it up! Ask me how I know??I had to go thru this on my 996. On 997.2 it might be bulletproof since Porsche decided to go with a different design. Hope its not big issue on your car Vader, keep us posted

He's actually right. My former 996 had to have the engine replaced due to a crack(s) in the cylinder sleeve.
Porsche admitted development was outsourced and there were many issues with the '99 to '01 models.
Check Rennlist and you'll see there are plenty of stories there. Ironically, at the time in 2004 I was reading about them and was glad that at 38K mine was doing well, until the car starting to overheat and I noticed oil in the coolant expansion tank. "Very few indeed"? Nope.
