I think I just had the IMS failure

Update in IMS Failure/Engine Replacement
Picked the car up last night from the dealership. I spoke with the tech who did the work. Everything went well. He felt, from what he was working with, that Porsche has supplied a "2nd generation" or "M97" engine. He said the bearing housing was bigger and the shaft was significantly larger.
Car runs great. Some coolant smell in the garage. We (tech & I) noticed a coolant "drip" right after he first fired the car up, just having reconnected everything and still on the lift. Supposedly, it was fixed but I will be keeping a close eye and keen nose on that. Nothing on the floor so far.
I had a new clutch put in while the car was in disassembly which included a new slave cylinder. Also, had a new drive belt put in. Both at my cost.
All told, out the door, the repair, including my costs was a staggering $29,031. Core charge on the old motor was $17K which means, had the engine block been deemed unusable, the bill would have been $46K- more than the car is worth.
Heading to the PCA koffee clatch Saturday morning to answer a lot of questions I'm sure. Let me know if you guys have questions. This was quite an unnerving ordeal. I was fortunate enough to have an awesome service advisor at the dealer. Glad its over.

Holy cow that's expensive.
Next time someone needs a M96 3.6L engine let me know.
My mechanic buddy is nearly done with a 33,000 mile engine with LNE IMS and
many other new parts (WP, plugs, belt, LN low temp thermostat).
about 1/3 the cost and no core required.
I'm sure if someone has the need I can speed him along.

Final Update:
I got my car back after it being in the shop for over three weeks or so. The majority of the wait time was due to the dealer working with the aftermarket warranty company. It only took about 5 days for the engine to be delivered and installed after approval from the warranty company.
My new engine is SN: M97/01AT68666682. Judging my Holden's number reference on page five of this thread, the new engine appears to have the larger IMS. I have the print out of the paper work that came with the new engine, but all the numbers are associated with German words (therefore I don't know what specific numbers mean). I can only read "serialnummer".
Finally, for those curious about costs, the replacement engine cost $19,205.58 and the total was $21,341.80. It was pretty cool to pick up my car from the dealer and they just handed me the keys with an invoice that showed $0.00. I am very glad to have my car back! It feels as though nothing ever happened
Here she is when I picked her up a week and half ago. I was surprised how well the C2S with summer tires dealt with the snow.

I just found that my engines serial number states it has the smaller ims. My car runs perfectly, and has never had any problems at all. I bought my car certified over the summer, so I still have a warranty. I'm just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, and what signs I should look for.

Some Porsche dealers extend discounts on parts to PCA members. Did you ask about these at the dealer who did the work?

From what I've read you don't, Porsche upgraded the IMS mid 2005.
