I don't believe many cheap OBD II scanners have the ability to turn off a maintenance service light,CELs yes! Both of the scanners I have are capable of reading emission codes and resetting the CEL light. That's it!

Bokchoys is infamous around these parts
I already have a cheapo OBD2 scanner. it'll only reset the standard check engine lights. I've used it on my BMW. It won't reset service indicator lights. though on my BMW, I can just use a paper clip to reset the light. on the newer ones, you can just do it from on board computer. I was hoping there was easier way to do it on the Porsche.

Sorry... was talking about my BMW. I have a 2000 E46... and it can be reset using a paper clip. While the newer BMWs can reset the service indicators through the OBC.

I'm trying to research on how people do it for the 997s. I like to do all my own car work.

The issue is that a 2009 built car, with the vast amount of software and sensors controlling things, and using a $300+ software package, doesn't allow me to set the service interval reminder to the correct value to remind for the next service due. While my 1994 built VW Golf had that capability right on the dashboard with the buttons in the clock/odometer. Its idiotic that Porsche doesn't provide a way for us to manage our own cars ... or Durametric's inability to solve how to set the values in software it sells. It may be Porsche hides this in key/handshake to drive traffic to dealer service, or it could be that Durametric is arrogant and doesn't get that its customers would really like this 16+ year old technology.
