No replacement of bumper - they want to repair it and replace the fender liner. I'm now pondering whether to file the claim and risk a possible increase in premium down the road, especially since I'd like to upgrade the bumper.

Can you file a claim with the city about the damage to your car due to the pothole?

It depends on the city and state. I ve seen it done. I have family members get paid from the town directly for a claim on one such as yours. It may be done in two different ways depending on the police dept within the cities procedures and state laws. You have to know if it s a city, county or state road. Then either try and just file a property damage report with that agency or try to file an accident report with the police that are responsible for the roadway.( and then file a claim with the jurisdiction resppnsible for maintaining that road). A walkin to your local police would be my first start. Again, it depends on rules of each location. It wasn t a fast process and may not be worth your time.
Remember, they may want proof of damage and some police depts will not take a belated report.

Thanks all. I'm just going to move on with it. $500 deductible and they'll replace the tire, repair wheel, replace fender liner and repair bumper. I'm going to speak with an underwriter because damage is under $1200 and it may not be worth it in the long run if it's going to impact premiums later. I'll repair the bumper anyway and keep or following an upgrade.

Thanks to all for input

In Cincinnati if the pothole had previously been reported to the city and not repaired you'd have a chance for a claim against the city. My guess is Hell would freeze over prior to getting a reimbursement.
