broken key button

anyone have THIS happen to their key? just took it out of my pocket today and found it like this. not abused in any way. i'm still under warranty wonder if porsche will cover it, have to call dealer tomorrow when service is open.

Not sure but I doubt a key is covered under warranty, but I hope for your sake it is...their not cheap!Good luck!

Yes. Happened on our Boxster (same style key) and had to get a replacement head and then have it programmed. After 2005 MY, only a Porsche dealer can do it. If I remember, total cost was $300 - 350 for everything. You don't need a key, just the remote head. This is not an uncommon occurrence. Sorry.

your pic didn t show the other part... Is it possible it will just snap back together... The tab on the key doesn t look broken.

The other part has 2 tabs. One of the tabs is broken.

Porsche dealer replaced a bad key for me shortly after I bought my new Boxster. That's what the warranty is for. New key. New engine Whatever is needed.

Would have been a great find but are the buttons for the 997.1 key the same for the 997.2? Te buttons on the suncoast page are for the 997.1 the op has a key for 997.2.

Wish I would have known (or thought to ask...) that you could buy just the buttons. Could have saved me some cash.

Not likely covered by warranty as it's a wear and tear thing.
You don't need to buy a new key. Just the case.
About $30 at the parts counter. You can even u[date to a 997.2 case.
