Nice wheels --- but how do you clean them??

I have been admiring the various wheels that members have, plus the ones for sale by vendors. Obviously, I have the 'wheel bug' thus been staring at what I would buy.

To the members with aftermarket wheels, how in the h___ do you clean the "inside" of the wheels? Do you use a cleaning kit with the appropriate/customized handles, sponge, etc. I bet that even with the inside barrel painted black, it still would look good when wiped with a sponge.

I am one of those **** ones who need to wipe the inside of the barrel with a sponge with my hands doing the Houdini bending, etc. I just could not stand just spraying (SimpleGreeen, wheel cleaner...) and washing the brake dust, asphalt, etc. off the wheels.

If you do not want to be "Houdini" to clean your wheels then you best choose your wheels wisely! I had two sets of wheels for my car.... While one set was pain to clean, the other set was just the opposite! I couldn't use any spray on cleaners(of fear of doing damage to the finish) but what I did have was a very soft brush that would gently clean the tight spots. If you check the detailing section you will see some very innovative products for cleaning.

Good luck,

Stacy

Check out adams polishes turbo wheel stick. It connects to your cordless drill. I use to clean the inside barrel of my wheels and it works great! I've used it on BBS wheels, competition wheels on my old e90 M3 and now on my 997.2 Carrera S wheels. They have wheel cleaner that is safe for all finished too.

I have the 19" turbo wheels on my car and clean the barrels every other time I clean the car. That way they stay nice and clean. Easy to clean when I lift the car and clean then from behind.

you have to take the wheels off and wash them and you can also wash out the brakes while you are at it

That attachment to the drill looks okay.

I wash my car once, sometimes 2x, per week. Taking off the wheels is not an option.

it's metal stem covered in plastic. it's ok..be sure to wear a tshirt you care nothing about when using it, it splatters dirty brake dust water everywhere during use. it makes such a mess I have to admit I have stopped using mine, and favor a shorter tool with a microfiber wand I found at the local Walmart.

Thanks for the honesty. I bet that drill attchment does the sam thing.

Yup! break dust (in liquid form or solid form) freaks me out. I havent checked if our pads are asbestos-free (I am sure they are), but still that black stuff can get pretty disgusting.

I finally learned to ignore the dust in the barrel. My barrels are painted a dark silver and it doesn't look too bad. I also use wheel wax a few times a year when I have the car in the air.

I wold be interested to hear from AG Mesh wheel owners. That style looks one of the better ones, though I was imagining how to clean the barrel.
