I note that you seem to be comparing one piece wheels. As previously stated, there is a big difference between a forged wheel and a cast wheel. Why not check out OZ as well? Their racing pedigree is just as long as BBS'. I would only add that some of those fancy MULTI piece wheels are "forged" - they only have forged centers and spun cast barrels. And those barrels bend like butter. Check out the cost of having a new barrel installed on one of those wheels! You won't believe it and you are held hostage by the wheel company.

Good insight. OZ has a line of cast product like Allegerita, Challenge, and Ultraleggera that are my number one selling wheel for Porsche. They also have the Superleggera III which is a built wheel with a forged center and cast, flow-formed barrels. OZ requires that only we do the rebuilds and won't sell the parts or give out torque specs unless you do. It's not cheap to rebuild a bent one. Repair costs on a 3 piece will come close to buying one of the cast wheels new. Barrels on 3 piece wheels are usually flat and bend easier than a cast wheel will. BBS also flow forms, and both companies are about the best quality there is in terms of casting and flow forming technology.

BBS in action:

Such a funny business - wheels. How to turn $10 worth of raw aluminum into a $1600 work of art (until it cracks).

After replacing so many "lightweight" wheels that crack on the street, I'm taking a new course - using "heavy" wheels that will stand up to the mean streets of San Diego, then replace a wheel when it cracks.

Unsprung weight yadda yadda, thats what 1.3 bar is for....

After I got a cracked rim on my HREs after about 2 months of driving, I'll never go back. I always took it easy around bumps and potholes and still got a cracked wheel. Sure they looked great and new the set was $7,000

I know a lot of people with BBS wheels and never had any issues. They're strong as hell, look great and way cheaper than HREs.

Hmm, out of curiosity, were you the original owner of those HREs?

I bought them used from a buddy who had a 911 as well. He got them new.
They were in near perfect shape when I purchased them.

Don't get me wrong, I think HRE makes a beautiful product but I wish they had more strength to them.

Well if you wish to delve into more detail, we'd love to know more specifically if the wheels were ever finished, model, date of purchase (if possible), etc.

Not sure which model. I sold the car and don't have the paperwork on them anymore.

They were 19"s all around. The cracked wheel was passenger rear wheel.

Were we contacted when the wheel cracked?
