How to clear Airbag Alarms/Lights ?

Folks,

While cleaning my Center Console, I unplugged the Passenger Airbag Light and by mistake (while it was unplugged), turned on the ignition. The net results is that I now have a permanent AirBag Alarm on the dashboard.

I have tried using my Durametric system to clear that alarm, and although Durametric claims the alarm has been cleared, it is always there.

What are my options? Do I have to go to the Dealership and ask them to reset it for me?

Thanks for your inputs.

Yves

is the light on the center console stuck on as well? maybe another connection is loose/faulty when you resintalled? either way, that's an interesting one as i have seen where the console light gets stuck on but not the dash light. (happened to me after my seat install - i had no problem clearing the dash light but had to disable the AWS in order for the console light to go out.)

good luck and post your solution!

In my case, the light on the center console lights up for a second or so, indicating that the passenger Air Bag is not active (nobody sitting next to me) and then the dashboard light comes on and stays on.

Durametric indicates that the Center Console light is broken/malfunctioning which is right when the failure was recorded (I had it disconnected) but wrong now that it is plugged back and working as expected. Basically, the error is recorded and cannot be cleared by Durametric.

This happened to me after buffing the exterior with a buffer - not by hand. Shorted something out and airbag light was on permanently. Local porsche specialist couldn't fix with their durametric. Had to go to dealer and they ended up replacing some module...don't know what one though.

There is no way that can happen from buffing the exterior - that was just a coincidence.

that is a weird one. and you have the dura pro, right? the only other thing i can suggest trying is turning off the AWS to see if it clears the light. not sure why that would affect the dash light tho but you never know...

Quite possibly, it's what I originally assumed. Some research turned up a few other people with issues from static electricity from electric buffers causing issues when applied near the headlights.

Static discharge on the poly bumper has been known to happen. Rare, but it occurs.

I have the Durametric pro version and can confirm it will clear an airbag light.

Can anyone confirm if the enthusiast version can do it too?

Folks,

I wanted to come to a closure on this post and take away the complaints and critics I had about the Durametric Enthusiast product.

I was actually able to clear the AIR BAG alarm with my Durametric Enthusiast cable. It did work.

What I did not realize was that the Passenger Air Bag light/PCB was pushed inside its case and was not making proper electrical connections, leaving the light circuit open. A dab of Loctite CA and everything went back in order.

Durametric cleared the fault, and for the next turn of the ignition key, the alarm on the dash board was clear.

Thanks Durametric.
