I tried several different alternatives and found the best for me is a generic unit I picked up at Target. I hated the units that mount to the air vents or get in the way of the dash.
Unfortunately my vehicle is at the dealer to reprogram the PCM a fourth time so I will describe it for you.
The unit I found has a suction cup with a long flexible stalk so it is easily removed when switching vehicles. I mount it to the lower left windshield and it fills the open area to the left of the steering wheel. Does not interrupt ingress and egress in any way. Phone displays perfectly.
If interested, I will post a pic when the dealer returns it to me. The Boxster loaner is just not the same, but the new exterior is not a bad look.

Sorry it took so long to reply CarNerd... I just saw your question today. It is very easy to install. Took just a couple of minutes. You simply loosen the seat mount bolt, slide the bracket behind the head of the bolt, and tighten it back down.

While I have 996, I think this set-up could still work for you. Dice pass-thought cradle that is connected to the stereo. Charges and plays thought the system.

I'm debating installing the proclip that I've had sitting around for a few months or going with a different mounting system or the proclip mount near the a/c vents. I have the proclip mount that sits on the passenger side of PCM and I want it much higher up after looking at it.
