CPO 2010 bought in Nov, just found crushed header tubes

Took the car to the local muffler shop to have the gundo done. First time I'm seeing the car up on a rack (mistake #1), but being a CPO I assumed (#2 mistake) that everything was fine. The header tubes on both sides are nearly 50% crushed on 2 of the six pipes. You can tell that it's been this way for awhile due to dirt, oxidation, etc. Is this something that the CPO will cover? I can't help but think that it's somewhat restrictive. Don't want to eat the cost of new headers unless I have to.

Did you call the dealer? I would call the dealer and see what they say.

More motivation for you to make the dealer replace them: A pair of new headers with the integral cats will cost over $2100 plus the labor.

Looks like mine,...exactly...ppi it was never brought up. After new mufflers they never mentioned until I saw it. Not a big deal. Did not restrict flow or anything, good dyno. I don't even think about it as a problem!

I don't believe they are damaged. I think that's the way they are supposed to look. There is no damage in surrounding area. I'm gonna be under my C2 this weekend. I'll verify.

It kinda looks like the rear bottomed out, or went on a curb. If it is restricting the flow, I will never know, maybe if Jeff Gordon drove it he could tell!! Lol
Don't even think about it!

if i remember from my two cars, all the factory headers are like this. And that's why when you change them to aftermarket ones, there are good gains but of course the cats play a role too...

I would not worry much...

^^^Agreed. The last time I was under my car, I remember those flats too. Looks like Porsche flattened them to gain ground clearance. Nothing to worry about unless you see scratches and gouges in the area.

Talked to the dealer today and he is going to send me the check list for the CPO. He was pretty confident in his mechanics. I remember reading somewhere that the collector tubes are lower than the rest of the engine/exhaust. The pics don't do much justice. There are some scratches for sure. But they are old. The tube on the right side is very close to 50% compression and is concave in shape. Part of the problem for me is that the dealership is 2hrs one-way from home. I just can't run down and let them take a peak.

My 2006 C2 cab had a few crunch spots and scrapes on the same tubes but not like this. These are deep. On a side note. The sound difference on the gundo from 06 C2 to 10 C2S is remarkable. The 997.2 is more raspy, but also much more tame.

As I suspected (as did others), this is absolutely not damage, but oem header pipes by design. Calm yourself down and DRIVE your car. :-)
