Glad to see you were okay and no one was hurt. Looks like it could have been a lot worse. Any updates from the insurance company yet ?

They haven't been able to get into the engine bay yet. I'm asking that it be sent to a Porsche Approved Collision Center...still waiting to hear back.

Despite what your insurance company will say, you are entitled to get it repaired anywhere you want. If their shop isn't certified to work on your car and its even remotely possible it won't be a writeoff I'd get it out of there.

FatArse.........I went through this same process a year ago and I had it fixed and I took it to a shop (Martino Auto Concepts in Glen Cove, LI...I think they may be a sponsor here as well) that employed artists and they fixed it beautifully......and I'm so glad I fixed it.

My Insurance Company let me take it to whoever I wanted to and they were wonderful! See my thread back in May about the repair. I went through the exact same collision as you did and went through the same heartache and questions you have. I'll PM you my cell # and please call me if you want and I can give you everything it took me a lot of time to find out.

You do not have to take it to a Porsche Approved Collision Shop either and do not ask the dealer where to take it...DO NOT!

Here are some pics of the car now....the right rear quarter panel was mangled awfully........

Bottom line it can be repaired beautifully! Mine was!

Best of Luck and at least you didn't get hurt!

Tom

Rear hit on a Porsche can have a lot of hidden damage that will come out and be felt down the line. I had a 1995 993 with a similar damage, got it fixed, only to regret it in time. Like many others said I would push for a total loss.

+1
My first Porsche (cayman) got a rear hit on the highway, even it only got very little damage on the rear bumper and exhaust tips.
After 1 month, Check engine light is on
Then few days later, I could hear loud noise from the car, I have no idea where is it from.
When I push the gas, sound is gone
If i do nothing, it sounds like a whistle

Even if it is repaired and cosmetically looks great, I would imagine that when it comes time for resale it would be disastrous. Seems as though you would be better pressing for a complete write off, and then buying another car.

To the OP, if the insurer won't cover it, sue the driver personally. Until people start feeling the pain personally, moral hazard w/insurance will persist.
These reasons are why I sold my beloved BMW K1200GT recently. It was only a matter of time before some inattentive a$$ killed me or injured me to a very painful extent. Not worth the smiles from riding... The most dangerous times to drive are weekdays during are morning, lunch hour, and the afternoon drive.

I had a similar thing happen. The insurance company denied DV, however my damage was not as bad as yours 3.5 bill.
They did say to keep papers and if it affects my resale value I can submit a claim if the dealer who takes it as trade in gives me a letter or if I end having to sell below kbb.
Good luck

Update to the thread...I got approval from the insurance company to have the car towed to Fantastic Finishes of Palm Beach (Porsche Approved Collision Center). They identified significant frame and structure damage and before the tear down even got to the engine, damage was valued at $27k and an estimated 3 months to repair. Even though I'm sure the shop would do a fantastic job on the repair, i decided to release the car back to the insurance company to proceed with a total loss. Sad, but humpty dumpty would never look the same in my eyes, even if put back together. Next steps will be to work with their loss department and begin the negotiation process on the value of the car...any tips or watch outs?

Get the retail value of your car depending on the condition and mileage of it before the accident. You are entitled to that value + your tax and license fees.

Would I work through dealerships to provide the retail value or are there specialists that would be able to determine the value for a fee?
